Environment: Urchin, Apache

Notes: We use Apache for our webserver at CSUMB and keep individual logs for each department's domain (e.g. business.csumb.edu, it.csumb.edu). We use PERL scripts to rotate the logs and make them available in monthly chunks for log analysis.

We chose Urchin because its ability to capture a lot of environmental variables that go beyond the standard information, like page and timestamp. Later, our original intuitions were confirmed when Google acquired Urchin.
