Teacher
Waiakea Intermediate School, Hilo HI (1993)
Spring - Earth Science, seventh grade, for educator Steve Stephenson.
Also created an Amateur Radio station in the classroom to talk to other
middle schools in the Hawaiian Islands.
Summer - combined English Composition and Computer Lab, 6-8
grades. The intent was to electronically publish a magazine with students
as editors.
Substitute teacher, Monterey Peninsula Unified School District
(1993-1995)
I taught various subjects, mostly at Monterey High School and the Monterey Academy of Oceanographic Science, while obtaining
a California Teaching Credential at night from Chapman University.
Long-term substitute, Monterey High School (1994)
I taught Chemistry and Physics for educator Randy Randall. This was
the same classroom where I had learned these subjects from Randy a decade
previous.
Adjunct Professor, CSU Monterey Bay (1995-1996)
CST 101 Technology Tools - I arrived at CSUMB in its first semester
and was able to develop curricula and teach the basic computing skills
class required of all graduates.
Adjunct Professor, CSU Monterey Bay (1996-2000)
CST 351 Web Design
- I developed this class after I became a full-time staff in charge
of Web Services. With graphic design as the prerequisite, I taught design
as it applies to the Web and included a semester project with on-campus
clients. I taught it for six semesters before turning more attention
to my full-time position at CSUMB.
CST 251 Basic Web Design - In contrast with CST 351, I helped
create another class but with no prerequisites and the intent of creating
publishers, not designers. With the support of then director Dr. Chris
Hasegawa (former public school teacher), I was able to mentor teach
one of my students, Dana
Lookadoo, as she student taught the class. After graduation,
she took over as full instructor for the course.
