Goyabreak

No new entries in almost two weeks! Egads, what's become of Goyaboy? Well, he's been working hard on getting the intro to his book done (it's done, more or less--now on the chapter one) and dealing with Christmas-related tasks, including setting up a website for his mother's crafting business as my gift to her. This means that evening blogging sessions have ground to a halt. But fear not--the web hosting I set up for Mom allows me to add-on my own domain name. This means that the New Year will start with a New and Improved Goyablog among other neat things at--you guessed it--goyaboy.org. Right now there is simply a single page announcement of my intentions at goyaboy.org. I'll probably archive this blog and start fresh with the 2gig server space and 75gig bandwidth Mom and I will be sharing. Oh yeah, her web site will be at luvinstitches.com . I'm working on the basics for it right now, if you want to peek at it.

Fire the Activist Justice

Supreme Court "Justice" Scalia finally admitted in public what we knew all along--he does not believe in the separation of church and state . Well that's just great. Let's institute a friggin' theocracy while we're at it. Oops, I forgot, we now already live in Jesusland under a born-again "president." And to think that Scalia could become Chief Justice once Reinquist retires. Scalia complains about "activist judges" who rule against the "one nation, under God" clause in the pledge, but what the hell does he think he is?! God help us....

Prescient

You heard it here first --Thomas Frank's book "What's the Matter with Kansas?" was prescient. Months ago I've been strongly recommending it as dead on in its analysis of how the conservative right has hijacked the heartland (and some questioned my judgment). Now Frank Rich of the NY Times notes that the book is "by common consent the year's most prescient political book. 'Values,' Mr. Frank writes, 'always take a backseat to the needs of money once the elections are won.' Under this perennial 'trick,' as he calls it, Republican politicians promise to stop abortion and force the culture industry "to clean up its act" - until the votes are counted.'" After the Dumb Thing That Happened on November 2 I read the book's epilogue and shuddered--it should be re-titled "What's the Matter with America?" Buy it and read it. Now.

It's Official: Bush wins 100% of the Homophobe vote

(Image from All Hat No Cattle)

Forget "security moms" and "NASCAR dads". It was the God-fearin' homophobes that put Bush in office. Now watch them raise hell to enshrine their bigotry in the Constitution. I'd rather be tolerant and lose the election nobly than be intolerant and win it through fear-mongering and pandering to narrow-minded conservative Christian wingnuts. God bless America indeed!

UK revokes US's Independence!

In a startling statement from the United Kingdom, the independence that the United States won in 1776 from its former colonial master has been officially revoked! The given reason was that the US proved itself incapable of self-governance by electing George W. Bush to a second term. This is great! I don't have to bother filing immigration forms for Canada now! Here's the entire statement:

OFFICIAL UK RESPONSE TO 2004 US PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION (CLASSIFIED)
Dear America,
In the light of your recent failure to make a sensible choice in electing your President, and thus be in a position to effectively govern yourselves, Her Sovereign Majesty Queen Elizabeth II hereby gives notice of the revocation of your independence, effective today. This move is intended to save you from yourselves.
Her Majesty will resume monarchical duties over all states and your new Prime Minister (Tony Blair, for the 97.85% of you are unaware that there is a world outside your borders) will appoint a Minister for America without the need for further elections. Congress and the Senate will be disbanded. Your so-called President will return to more suitable tea party duties at the local zoo.
A questionnaire will be circulated next year to determine whether any of you noticed.
To aid to the transition to a British Crown Dependency, the following rules are introduced with immediate effect:
* You should look up "revocation" in the Oxford English Dictionary. Then look up "herb". Check the way it’s pronounced. See that “h”? Amazing, isn’t it? In fact, you will be amazed at just how wrongly you have been pronouncing words compared to the rest of the English speaking world. You should raise your vocabulary to acceptable levels.
Look up "vocabulary".
Using the same 27 words interspersed with filler noises such as "like", "whatever" and "you know" is an unacceptable and ineffective form of communication.
Look up "interspersed".
* The term "US English" will cease to exist. There will just be "English" - note there are not, and never have been, such things as "UK English", "Australian English", "Outer Mongolian English" etc, etc (it's just been you versus the rest of the world). We will let Microsoft know on your behalf.
* You should learn to distinguish between English, Scots, Welsh, Irish and Australian accents. It really isn't that hard.
* Hollywood will be required to occasionally cast non-American actors as the good guys.
* You will no longer be allowed to play 'American football'. There is only one kind of football. What you refer to as 'football' is not a very good game. The 2.15% of you who are aware that there is a world outside your borders may have noticed that no one else plays 'American football'. Instead you should play proper football. Initially, it would be best if you played with the girls. It is not a difficult game. Those of you brave enough will, in time, be allowed to play rugby, which is similar to 'American football', but does not involve stopping for a rest every 20 seconds or wearing full body armour (look up "armour") like nancy boys. For those who will insist on carrying on playing 'American football', note that the term will be illegal and the new name will be 'Nancy boy popcorn & hot dog show'.
* Take a tip from the Aussies (that's people from Australia for the uninitiated - look up "uninitiated"). You can actually be proud about having no culture. If you must make your mark on the rest of the world, do what they do by hammering cultured nations like England at sport (and by that we mean sport that everyone plays), out-drinking them or by taking the p*ss out of them. This is far better fun than blowing up tin pot nations.
* You must learn to drink properly and that the alcoholic content of beer is usually well over 4%, not around 1.5%. In future American strength beer will be referred to as 'nancy boy crap'.
* The term 'God bless America' will be outlawed. Every time you get an urge to say this you should alternatively use the equally heart-jerking phrase "Anyone coming down the pub?" This is an equivalent phrase commonly used in the rest of the English-speaking world.
* All American cars are hereby banned. We banned English cars long ago, and yours really aren’t’ any better. They are crap and it is for your own good. When we show you German cars, you will understand what we mean.
* The phrase 'American Dream' will be replaced by 'World Reality'. If you have a problem with this, simply utter those magic words "Anyone coming down the pub?"
* The 4th of July is no longer a public holiday. The 2nd of November will be a new public holiday. It will be called "Dumbass Day".
Thank you for your co-operation.
The United Kingdom

Karl Rove, meet Karl Marx

Karl Rove, whose evil genius can get any idiot elected, has taken a page from Karl Marx, whose classic assessment that "religion is the opiate of the people" rings ever so true today. Marx went on to describe how religion is used to prevent revolt, maintain social order, and keep the ruling class in power by diverting attention away from the true sources of oppression. Wake up, sheeple! Why do you insist on aiding and abetting the rich and powerful who are playing you for fools.

Bush = Dog, American People = Fire Hydrant

This is a choice description of Black Tuesday by Mark Moford of the San Francisco Chronicle: "It simply boggles the mind: we've already had four years of some of the most appalling and abusive foreign and domestic policy in American history, some of the most well-documented atrocities ever wrought on the American populace and it's all combined with the biggest and most violently botched and grossly mismanaged war since Vietnam, and much of the nation still insists in living in a giant vat of utter blind faith, still insists on believing the man in the White House couldn't possibly be treating them like a dog treats a fire hydrant."

Other values

Al Franken just put very well on Air America: Everyone is talking about "moral values" winning it for Bush while implying that poverty, the environment, health insurance coverage, and the war in Iraq, etc. are not a part of "moral values." What would Jesus do?

The United States is now even more--and rightfully so--the laughing stock and source of fear for the rest of the world. Headlines from abroad: "Oops, They Did It Again!" (Daily Mirror of London) This article from the Asia Times is representative of how we look to the rest of the world and what will result from the Catastrophe of 11/2.

Suicide Bombers for Christ

Bush's Evangelical base (and no doubt Bush himself) would like nothing better than to institute a theocracy (as "God's Kingdom on Earth"). They have lost all sight (if they ever had any) of what a democracy is supposed to be as a political system the goals of which include social equality and tolerance of diverse views and beliefs. And they twist and pervert and cherry-pick the teachings of Christ to suit their own twisted, perverted, cultish lunatic vision of the world. In the process, they have mobilized to self-righteously shove their narrow-minded, fanatical, and, IMHO, suicidal beliefs down the throats of all Americans. Yesterday Bush called on all Americans to join him in working for America's future. Count me out, Mr. Bush. I will never, ever, support you and your policies as long as you count crazies (and the soulless superrich) as your base and insist that God is guiding your actions. You're supposed to be the President, not the theocratic cult leader that you've become. As far as I'm concerned, you are the Anti-Christ (which I'm sure also fits into the bizzarro theology of Evangelicals). The irony of all this is that the radical Christian Right has more in common with the kind of Islamic fundamentalism flourishing is places like Iran and among Jihad-driven terrorists. They are, in effect, Suicide Bombers for Christ.

Quote of the day:

"The fact that values trumped the economy sends a very strong signal," said Republican pollster Whit Ayres, who said the moral values issue was in the background of the day-to-day campaign debate over terrorism, Iraq and the economy. "It's a subliminal message that 'this guy thinks more like I do.'" (AP news, 11/03/04)

"This guy thinks [sic] more like I do." 'Nuff said.

Values don't put bread on the table

(image from The Onion )

All the talk today is that Bushspeak on "moral values " is what turned this election for Bush in critical states. What does that mean? Why would anyone vote for a president based on the vague notion that he "shares my values"? First of all, let's clear the fog: "moral values" is, specifically in this instance, code for being a conservative Christian who is intolerant of gays and lesbians, opposes a women's right to an abortion, and thinks stem-cell research is murder and that school prayer should be mandatory. Why do you think gay marriage ban initiatives were placed on the ballot in key states like Ohio? To energize the conservative Christian vote. More generally, "moral values" means sacred over secular, faith over reason (when you're a C student alcoholic like W was, claiming to have been "born again" is a smart way to pad the resume). So people (sheeple) will follow a miserable failure of a president because he shares their values. Fine; at least that shows commitment. But to what end? Does one expect those "moral values" to turn into policy and law? Level-headed answer: no, the government should not be in the business of legislating a single set of Christian-based "moral values"; plus, it has more important things to do. Scary answer: yes. The hardcore Evangelicals at the base of Bush's support clearly expect him to appoint judges to overturn Roe v. Wade (which, I predict, will be overturned in the not too distant future) and to push through an amendment to ban "gay marriage" (which I predict probably won't happen--tampering with the Constitution like that is too, well, sacrilegious). The really hardcore Rapture Creatures among the Evangelicals love Bush's unmitigated support for Israel as necessary for Armageddon and the fulfillment of prophecy. Just check out the Armageddon Clock on the Rapture Ready web site. The same web site explains that there is no way that the Lord Jesus would ever had voted Democrat . Why? I quote in full:

"There is one thing certain we can state, based upon the integrity of Bible truth. Jesus would never endorse or be a member of any party whose platform supports abortion, gay rights, and a general hostility to Bible-believing Christians.

Another thing can be confidently stated, based upon observations of current facts about American politics. The Democrat Party would never have Jesus as a member. Much of the basis for that observation is found in the issues mentioned above.

The Democrats' leadership consistently supports abortion--or, as they term it, "the right to choose." They continue to support homosexual activists and their "gay rights" causes, a debased, debauched lifestyle that God calls abominable. Democrats defend pornography as art that comes under the heading of "free speech."

This political party comes down on the side of liberal federal judges who have ruled that God should be thrown out of the public places of America. These judges --and the Democratic Party by supporting them--declare "The Ten Commandments," "In God We Trust" on our currency, and "One nation, under God" in the "Pledge of Allegiance" dangerous to our school children and our society.

This party champions taking ever-increasing tax money from the pockets of those who work to give to those who won't work, even if they have opportunity. Thus there has been created a dependent welfare class that trillions of dollars of taxpayers' money since the implementation of "The Great Society's War  on Poverty" --instituted by a Democratic president and a mostly Democratic Congress-- has not been able to improve. Catering to a welfare class -and that means people who refuse to make a genuine effort to work, even though they are healthy--violates a basic precept of God's Word, the Bible.

"For even when we were with you, this we commanded you, that if any would not work, neither should he eat" (2 Thess. 3:10).

The Democratic Party continues to be led by those who believe pacifism is the easiest pathway to world peace. They constantly do all within their power to support legislative action designed to disarm the military of the US and the American public. Again, that woolly-minded leadership violates basic biblical precepts. Jesus spoke about being vigilant and prepared to defend one's home: "Or else how can one enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he first bind the strong man? and then he will spoil his house" (Matt. 12:29).

Jesus would never be invited to be keynote speaker at the Democratic National  Convention, that's for sure!"

This, folks, is the base of Bush's support speaking, and my friends who are conservative Christian Democrats (yes, there are Christian Democrats) think this kind of Republican pandering and propaganda is appalling. Rather, the Bush Administration should start displaying Jesus' concern for the poor, the weak, and the destitute instead of fighting for tax breaks to the most wealthy. Moral values (at least those ascribed to by Bush) aren't going to create jobs, clean up the environment, provide needed social welfare programs, cover you with good and affordable health insurance, or defeat terrorism. Oops, I forgot about that last one--W is God's Tool through which His Will is done. (I heard it on Fox!)

This country is doomed

By all objective measures of his performance, Bush should have been turned out of office bigtime. But, as I have always suspected, the majority of Americans are just plain ignorant and/or just don't care. They will ignore mega budget deficits, unjust tax breaks to the rich, the raping of the environment, thousands dead in an unnecessary war, the shreading of traditional alliances, the underfunding of education, the gutting of social services, the non-separation of church and state, and outright lies by the administration so that they can prevent "gay marriage" and abortions and keep their assault weapons. The electorate's sense of priorities is seriously whacked; it has drunk the rightwing kool-aid willingly and thus deserves the ugly mess that Bush has made of this country and the world. Lord save us...

Kerry in a Landslide

An electoral landslide, that is. Despite Rethugicans' desperate attempts to suppress democratic votes , I will go out on a limb and predict that Kerry wins with at least 284 electoral votes. I won't be surprised if fights breakout at polling places in Florida, Ohio, and Wisconsin and if lawyers are called in to settle dozens of disputes across battleground states. Why? Because John Kerry will have the votes and the despicable Rethugican Cheat Machine will be out in force to take them away. And if you don't think Rove & Co. hasn't planned for worst case scenarios (i.e. Bush can't win with a fair vote and count) and is poised to do whatever it takes to steal the election, then you are a fool and/or weren't awake in November 2000.

If this flyer is for real...

... I'm real mad. According to the DailyKos , it was found being distributed in Milwaukee's African American communities. I would not at all put it past Repugicans for pulling this desperate, dirty shit. The Repugicans' only strategy to win now is to suppress the minority (mostly Democratic) vote because they know Democrats are kicking their asses in the ground game to get out the vote. From purging voting registration rolls and losing absentee ballots to "poll watchers" set up in urban areas of battleground states to challenge the vote of any person of color who is in line in order to intimidate and discourage them to vote, this crap is turning our democracy into a mockery. UN poll watchers should be sent here like they are to Third World elections. No matter how long the Repug Thugs intimidate first-time minority voters and slow down the voting, I hope the voters hang in there and hand W a miserable defeat to match the miserable failure he has been. If there is a God and Heaven and Hell, W and those who are lying and cheating to get him elected will surely burn in Hell. And Karl Rove is going way deeper than the Ninth Circle.

The Real George W. Bush

If you're offended by people giving you the finger (or telling you to "fuck off " as Vice President Cheney did to Senator Leahy), then you better not watch the above video of W as governor of Texas. And this is our president?! What an asshole. If American voters don't throw this bum out on November 2, then we are all f---ed.
