Prescient

You heard it here first --Thomas Frank's book "What's the Matter with Kansas?" was prescient. Months ago I've been strongly recommending it as dead on in its analysis of how the conservative right has hijacked the heartland (and some questioned my judgment). Now Frank Rich of the NY Times notes that the book is "by common consent the year's most prescient political book. 'Values,' Mr. Frank writes, 'always take a backseat to the needs of money once the elections are won.' Under this perennial 'trick,' as he calls it, Republican politicians promise to stop abortion and force the culture industry "to clean up its act" - until the votes are counted.'" After the Dumb Thing That Happened on November 2 I read the book's epilogue and shuddered--it should be re-titled "What's the Matter with America?" Buy it and read it. Now.
