Wood

Kerry Wood didn't have his best today as the Cubs opened their season at Cincinnati today, but pitched well enough in five innings to notch his and the Cubs' first win of the 2004 season. The bullpen, in contrast, was awesome despite some jitters from Joe Borowski in the ninth. Moises Alou had the big hit, a two-out three-run double, and Grundzielanek was 3-for-5 as leadoff man. Also notable is that Corey Patterson returned to the team with a solo homer in the first inning after being out most of last season. All in all, a good start for the 2004 campaign, which, by the way, Peter Gammons predicts will end with the Cubs winning the World Series in seven games over the Red Sox. IN MY DREAMS!
