Weeds

I learned about weeds today: mostly, how to pull them. Clearly, we should have treated our lawn with weed control stuff during the winter. Over the past couple weeks, a profusion of familiar and not-so-familiar southern weeds have burst forth and effectively choked off the grass, such as it is. I counted about 10 different varieties, from crabgrass to tampopo to clover to thistles . Safa, of course, didn't want me to pull any of them because they were "pretty flowers." After bending and squatting for three hours and getting about half done (and not all by the roots), I decided to buy chemicals and fertilizer to try to revive the "turf." We live in a neighborhood of perfect turfs professionally maintained, but that's not our style. I don't want a perfect turf; just at least 51% of the front yard to be some recognizable form of grass (crabgrass excluded).
