Safe at Home

We got back yesterday from our two-week road trip to Princeton and back via Pittsburgh (with me flying from NJ to Chicago and back in between). For me, the highlights were the four ball games I caught: Cubs-Giants at Wrigley (see below), Phillies-Braves at Citizens Bank Park (the replacement for the Vet), and two Cubs-Pirates games at PNC Park. The Phillies' new park is a huge improvement over the Vet, but PNC Park is hands-down the better of the two. PNC Park is small and cozy (like Wrigley) and the view of the city over the Allegheny River is fabulous. We could see our hotel, the Renaissance (circled here) from our seats:

Cubs lost the Friday night game that I went to alone, but won 12-1 on the day that the whole family attended. Moises Alou keyed the victory with clutch hitting, such as this run-scoring double:

Safa had a great time watching the Pirates' mascot, a parrot that is a rip-off of the Phillie Phanatic. At the Phillies' game we were in the warm setting sun for a few innings, making Safa visibly uncomfortable:

All in all, though, we had a terrific time. I'm already planning the next weekend trip to PNC Park to see the Cubs, with maybe catching a series against the Reds in Cincinnati along the way...
