Pond Project (cont.)

After a week with a shovel, jackhammer, and wheelbarrow, I finally got the pond hole dug. It's awesome--a work of art. After leveling it and clearing it of sharp rocks, I layered the bottom with about an inch of sand, the geotextile underlayment and then the 45-mil EPDM liner (brand name PondGard by Firestone ):

Next, Safa and I started filling it up to smooth as many wrinkles as possible and to create pleats around the corners. Safa had the important job of sitting on a major double pleat I had to make at one spot. This sure beat shoveling dirt:

Et voilĂ !:

Today I placed an order for 2 tons of Arkansas fieldstone with which to edge the pond. I also brought home 300 pounds of Mexican Beach Pebbles for outline trim. I'll probably need more of both...
