OAKIE
TREADWELL (Director)
Oakie a San Francisco based filmmaker and queer activist, and director

film. www.sexyfilm.se
Postcode Productions,
founded in 2002 by Oakie Treadwell, is a production company committed
to producing, and distributing films worldwide that raise awareness oftransgender
issues, catapult positive representations of queer transgender sexuality
directly into people’s lives, and actively function to dismantle
the binary gender structure.Treadwell views his role as a director both
as an opportunity to orchestrate collaborations between peers and community
members, and as a means to participate in a ongoing discussion about gender,
pushing this dialogue further than might be reached conversationally.
Maggots and Men and his previous film Phineas Slipped are both set in
all male environments, yet they are cast with actors from a spectrum of
gender expressions. Thus, “manhood” is redefined for the audience.
With the gender-play as a subtext, his films attempt to tackle social
issues, revealing the ways in which hierarchical structures of domination
cause pain and suffering.
