Help support the Roadtrip:

Friends and Comrades:

The Veterans for Peace "STOP THE WAR" National Bus Tour website is now on the VFP National website at www.veteransforpeace.org.   Please log on to check out our roadtrip, our schedule, our stops for media work, and the participants riding the bus to the Boston Convention.    We are receiving lots of interest and calls, and we possibly could take a second bus if there are riders and drivers available.

This website also contains links for the purchase of caps, tees, mugs, etc. with our VFP Roadtrip logo in color.  Check it out.

We wish to ask for your support for this veterans roadtrip.   In addition to our fuel costs and other assorted expenses involved with operating a peace bus, we are asking for your donations so that we may purchase film, and pay for camera rental and other assorted costs involved with producing a quality film for VFP recruiting purposes.    We hope to get the film aired on PBS or other suitable outlets.   We will also produce and market a DVD for sale to members and chapters.

Please support us with a donation payable to Veterans for Peace Chapter 22, P O Box 69, Garberville, CA  95542

March 31, 2004

Dear Friends,

This letter is to express the support of our national organization for the VFP Chapter 22 project to document and broadcast the "Spirit of Garberville" Peace Bus trip as it makes its way from California to Massachusetts during July of this year.

The 2004 Veterans For Peace national convention will be held in Boston just prior to the Democratic convention and promises to be an important opportunity for veterans who are against militarism and war to have our voices heard loud and clear.

The "Spirit of Garberville" Peace Bus trip will be an outreach component of this effort and will help spread our message as it travels across the country. It will also provide an exciting documentary record of this mission.

I hope you will provide whatever assistance you can to Gordon Soderberg and the others working on this important effort.

Thank you in advance for your help.

Sincerely,
David Cline
National VFP President

Digital Video/Web/DVD documentary of the Veterans for Peace "Spirit of Garberville" Peace bus trip to the National VFP Conference & Democratic Convention in Boston, Ma. July, 2004.

This digital documentary will be produced for local, national and international broadcasting, cable TV, and on the internet. The goals of this project will be to raise public awareness of the issues that California Chapters of Veterans for Peace will bring to the national VFP and Democratic Conventions this summer. Documenting their experiences on video and the web while travelling across the country this summer will be done by the veterans on the bus. Gordon Soderberg created this project will teach the participating veterans to produce their own, video segments, biography, journals, image and web page databases while on the road.

While traveling from Humboldt County, Ca to Boston, Ma, the documentary team will interview other vets on the bus as-well-as the people they meet along the way. They will interact with the news media via email, cell phone, and video conferences. Special emphasis will be paid to their attempts to gain access to media coverage. We encourage vets, active service, and their families and friends to take a stand, and to give those who are against the idea of veterans opposing the war a chance to provide their points of view in this documentary. Once in Boston, the team will interview the national VFP leaders and document their attempts to gain access to speak with the democratic leadership at the convention in order to get resolution to national democratic platform issues.

This trip will be covered live by using digital video and audio, still photographs and text descriptions posted to the website created to cover the trip. A interactive map of the cross-county trip will be used to track the buses progress with links to the biographies of the riders and their journals.

Chat rooms will be set up to interact with the "Peace Bus". High School and College Journalism Students will be encouraged to participate. In order to ask questions of the veterans and inform the student body politic.

The goals of this project will be to create three informative products.

#1 Linear video for broadcast by local television stations along the buses route.

#2 Website updated daily to keep information current and to create the script for final edit.

#3 Linear video and DVD masters of the final edited version of the trip for local, national, and international distribution.

We start shooting this July. "The Spirit of Peace". 12 members of the Veterans For Peace, of Northern California in their "Spirit of Garberville Peace Bus" will head to Boston and the Veterans for Peace National Conference. Our goal is to document what takes on the trip by updating text, links, video, photos, to http://www.veteransforpeace.org and other websites.

While going to Boston the Peace bus will be teaching other Veterans for Peace members on how to contribute their stories photos etc to our sites. It is time the Veterans get heard.

We're looking for grant funds, underwriting, and co-sponsors to support this project with pre/post production equipment, distribution and duplication services. Donations for equipment are tax deductible:
