PRESS RELEASE - FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
VETERANS FOR PEACE STOP THE WAR NATIONAL BUS TOUR
Local veterans from Humboldt leave Friday, July
9th, on a nationwide speaking tour in protest of
President Bush and his World War
policies. Thirteen veterans from
Northern California will convoy for peace in a
bus and truck on the way to Boston to attend the
National Convention of Veterans for Peace,
followed by the Democratic Party
Convention.
The Chapter 22 Veterans for Peace owned bus, the
Spirit of Garberville, will make the 6500 mile
round trip between July 9 and August
3. Locals include Fredy and
Sherry Champagne of Garberville, Walter Wood
of Willow Creek, Gordon Soderberg of Eureka and
Patrick Tate of Willits along with others from
Santa Rosa, San Francisco and San Jose.
This "Stop the War" Peace Convoy
will be on the road for 24 days and nights and
will be speaking at events in 22 major cities
across the USA. The veterans intend
to make their presence felt at the national
conventions of the Vets for Peace and the
Democratic Party.
The veterans on our trip include all perspectives
on the war and related issues. Some
of us are for Kerry wholeheartedly, working on
the Veterans for Kerry campaign.
Others of us are disappointed that Kerry appears
to have turned his back on the anti-war
movement. Some veterans feel betrayed
by Kerry's platform of "Mo Betta
Wars". Some of us truly want to
support Kerry, but are incensed by his refusal to
spell out how we will end this war in the Middle
East. Some veterans will vote for
Kerry, as a lesser of two evils, but with serious
misgivings. This controversy will
grow as we approach the Democratic Convention and
the Kerry nomination. We
veterans have a thing or two to say to Mr. Kerry
about war and peace. We've been
there, done that.
