Kerry's BBQ, or how to
"get down" with the un-washed (thus
Edwards as veep).
Once again, we're asked to
substitute image over substance. Kerry's
candidacy is essentially completely devoid of
political leadership at all, and thus mired in
the general collapse of America into systemic
corporate corruption. Iraq, poverty,
empire, the looming end-of-oil: all are either
ignored or masked behind rhetorical
flourish. Kerry has no plan for a
change in direction because he has been vetted
thoroughly to insure there will be
none. He is going to deepen the crisis
we're in, and we're going to keep on paying.
The biggest price will be the
reinstatement of the draft (military slavery),
pushed on us via appeals to "fairness"
to the overstretched volunteers and National
Guard. It will be sold as
"different this time", i.e. there will
be no (obvious) means to avoid
it. Loopholes will be there, you can
rest assured of that. Withdrawal and
imperial build-down will continue to be deemed
"unthinkable", lest we lose
"credibility" (never explained what
that means). The desperate masses of
the sinking world will fling themselves in ever
greater numbers against our Robocop military,
matching ferocity, discipline, ruthlessness and a
capacity to absorb endless losses against our
Deathstar. If you think this is overly
pessimistic, recall Vietnam, or
Algeria.
Kerry could begin unraveling
this Gordian nightmare, recognizing that
"we" are part of a much bigger problem,
and there is to be no easy
solution. He would need to begin by
withdrawing troops and bases and facing all the
corporate wrath that would engender. He could do
that, being rich and having a healthy personal
safety net. Maybe only one term. But a
start. He won't, of course, being just
another creature coughed up the by corporate
