A popular way to see, shop, smell and eat your way through Taiwan

We visited two night markets. One rather tame one right on the main highway. Imagine having a street faire at night on Highway 1. The other market is the notorious Snake Alley.

Duck Duck Goose! the good parts of the duck must have gone to a restaurant.
Highway shopping. I saw more caucasians at this market than all of Taiwan, about a dozen.
Multi-hued Panting. This artist dips his instrument in several colors before applying it to paper.
Snake Alley Entrance.
Snake Alley. The walkway into the market.
Snake Alley. Crowded with vendors, they turn off their lights and shut up tight when police come by. Something about taxes.
Snake Alley. Yes, this snake gets the hammer in a minute. Then it's gutted and served immediately to customers, not the meat mind you.
Taipei's oldest Temple, oddly enough, just across the street from Snake Alley.
