Down But Not Out!
What doesn't kill you just makes you stronger.

Everyone is bagging on Michael Eisner these days, am I the only one sick of it? Sure Roy Disney is upset, sure he got his feelings hurt, but his efforts to oust Michael Eisner is setting the company up for an even worst scenario, a Comcast takeover.

The purpose of this site is to counter Roy Disney's claims and SaveDisney's mission, and make an objective argument against their case. There are two sides to every dispute. I'm one person who thinks the other side should be examined.

Reader Comments:

I am so glad someone is finally offering an alternative viewpoint to Roy Disney and his lemmings agenda that is so pervasive on the internet.

I'm glad someone has put this idea out there and your site has some good valid points. Again I'm very impressed and will recommend your site to other Disney fans I know.

Thanks for bringing in some balance.
Eisner isn't perfect, and neither is 'the idiot nephew' or Gold or the Bass's etc.
Nothing is perfect...let's all remain calm and reasonable...like your site!

Open your eyes to Disney and Gold

First Decade
No one disputes the incredible first decade of Disney with Michael Eisner. 10 years of phenomenal growth. Was everything great back then? Well the parks expanded and proved to be gold mines. There was great creative and commercial success with Feature animation. The one sour note in MY mind was the volume of really bad low budget forgettable films that Disney cranked out in those first 10 years. The reason I mention that is because now so much fuss is being made about how Disney has lost their creative and critical edge, but in contrast the last few years have seen some of the best Disney live action films of the last twenty. So where is this supposed lack of creativity?
Feature Animation
Feature Animation has supposedly lost its way in recent years. Was it because Jeffrey Katzenberg left? With the exception of Shrek, Mr. Katzengerg has had less then stellar success with his Dreamworks animation projects. So was his departure such a detriment to the Disney Company. And if recent years have brought less profitable, less well received feature animation from Disney why isn’t Roy Disney pointing the finger at himself? Roy Disney was in charge of Feature Animation right up until the day he left. How much of a money pit was Fantasia 2000?
Pixar
Sure Pixar is Hollywood’s darling right now. Was Finding Nemo a good film? Sure. Did it have much competition from other family films at the Box Office? Not much. Finding Nemo would have done well anytime anywhere, but its incredible success was more of being the right movie at the right time. Will Pixar’s next movie be as successful? Odds are not. It will make good money but in the years ahead Pixar will face more and more competition as more Studios sign on to make Computer Animated Features. And will Pixar films be perceived the same way when the Disney name no longer appears in front of it?
Sure Steve Jobs wants a bigger piece of the pie, and he would have got it. But he’s the one who walked and he’s the one who felt like he should have been able to go back in time and undo the previous deal, to the detriment of Disney; Michael Eisner didn’t sour these negotiations, it was Steve Jobs temper tantrum.
Also while we’re on the subject of Steve Jobs, kudos to MacOSX, other then that, your overpriced hardware and "sports car" spiel to justify dwindling market share excuse for sucking dry a kids savings to buy an ipod then leaving him with a dead battery idea of igniting the world of personal computing needs its own serious examination. (rant over)
Disney & Gold
Roy Disney and Stanley Gold are nothing more then corporate raiders that have blown apart many a board room in their day. Companies have been bought stripped and sold, ran into the ground "LA Gear", all to the detriment of hundreds if not thousands of employees and their families. Don't be lulled by the warm blue lights of SaveDisney.com. Shamrock Holdings wants Eisner out for one green reason: MONEY. Is it Comcast money? And if they succeed then what? Have they offered one plan as to what happens after Eisner and the other board members are removed? No. If Eisner were voted out the whole corporate structure would fall in disarray. How long would it take to get the ship righted again? The stocks would dip low enough for Comcast to finally sink its fangs in. But then maybe that's what our good friends at Shamrock want. People need to stop for a moment, rub the pixie dust out of their eyes, and judge Shamrock on their actions and not their sentiment.
Miramax
Are better returns so unreasonable to ask for? And wouldn't it be great if Comcast took over and Michael Eisner was no longer around badgering them to adhere to some sort of decency standard. Maybe then they could finally make the porn they've always dreamed of.
Frank Wells
Sometimes bad things happen to good people, but I’m so tired of everyone making Frank Wells' death this monumental turning point in the fortunes of the Disney Company. I’m sure Michael Eisner would prefer that tragedy to have not happened, but in the following years he guided park expansions, The Disney Cruise Line, and ABC/ESPN. The company is a media giant today because of steps taken during the last ten years.
Comcast
Let’s not be fooled, no one has warm fuzzy feelings for their cable company. Do a google search for “Comcast Sucks” and see what comes up. Whether you like Michael Eisner or not, now is not the time to give up on him and let the legacy of Walt Disney be swallowed up by the cable company; The same company that gouges you each month with ever increasing rates year after year. Who is going to pay for the massive cable infrastructure that continually needs to be upgraded and replaced? Well, it will be you and that $8.00 churro you just bought for your kid. And who will subsidize the subscribers being lost to Directv and Dish Network and Satellite Broadband? It will be YOU standing in line to ride Comcast Cody’s Tilt-O-Whirl at Disney’s CableWorld Theme Park.
Look honey Comcast can't be all bad, they brought back the Skybuckets!
Comcast-Disneyland Resort after-merger announcements:

It was announced today that Fastpass, the popular ride reservation system, will be given a more cable company like feel. Meaning after you receive your complimentary “Fastpass Ticket” you can come back and enjoy the ride sometime between 10 and 2pm, and just like with the cable company it’s up to you to guess when.

Also announced, as a new revenue generator many rides will now offer special pay-per-view extra features. Just use your handy complimentary remote ($30 deposit) and the next time you’re on Pirates of the Caribbean dial up some whacky animatronic pirate outtakes and bloopers. And as usual all charges will appear on your next regular monthly cable bill.
The Spielberg spiel
So Michael Eisner won’t collaborate with Spielberg, Lucas, Zemeckis, etc. I hear this argument a lot, that Michael Eisner is alienated from all of Hollywood.
Steven Spielberg has no problems getting movies made in Hollywood without Disney’s help. Why does Disney need to collaborate with those producers that take little to no financial risk but command as much as half of all the profits. Disney is doing just fine without them; $3 billion.
Michael Ovitz
I think it’s a great thing that the Delaware courts unsealed the Oct. 9,1996 letter from Eisner to Ovitz. It shines some clarity on the situation surrounding his departure. It’s my opinion that Michael Eisner was totally duped by Michael Ovitz.
Ovitz was the Hollywood uber-agent with solid connections to top talent. He could have done some incredible things at Disney but floundered. From the letter, it sounds like Michael Eisner gave Ovitz a huge amount of slack and made tremendous efforts to help Ovitz adjust. The guy turned out to be a total flake. What more could you do but fire him. The only real long lasting problem is how the guy was allowed to write a 140 million dollar parachute into his contract. That’s where somebody really screwed up. If that blame falls on Michael Eisner then he should take his lumps. But is that mistake enough to justify the Rabid Roys? I don’t think so.
Thoughts on ABC network
Networks lead in cycles. It was only a few years ago that CBS was in the toilet. NBC this year will lose two of its biggest comedies. How long until viewers are tired of the same rehashed ER stories? I know I am. How long will it take until total overload from the CSI network or the Law & Order channel? Whether Michael Eisner stays or leaves, ABC is poised for a comeback. Bank on it.
Who am I?
Let's end the speculation. I am one guy who decided to spend 8 bucks and start this site. Why? Because people need to be enlightened.

More to come soon. There's still plenty to say.
