George Schneeman

Local Plunder

Homeplate, the bargain basement store of work by George Schneeman, has surfaced once again. This time, he's transformed a room in his basement studio into a bright showroom display of his terrific, one of a kind, ceramic items. Here's the place to do some local plundering.
Schneeman is one of the most inventive and original artists around. His ceramic pieces—bowls, cups, platters, lamps, clocks, plates, jugs, vases—are all hand-painted with his bold, spirited scenes of pastoral revelry. Imagining back to the harp-accompanied, sometimes mead-induced motifs of classical times, George ransacks antiquity to recapture the feisty essence of joyous meadow carousing. Naked revelers are eternal though and George's versions, whether half-submerged in clouds, water, or each other, remind us that the bacchanal, like the art work that first celebrated it, will always be around.
It's unbelievable to get, for these prices, art work of such fine quality, painted onto vessels you can put fruit into. The pieces aren't cheap in a shopping stroll sense but as usable, functional art works they are undeniable treasures. We're talking around a $65-$125 range. Here's your chance to bring home the deals of a new Arcady.
