Pamela Lawton

(bob, April 8–May 2, 1993

Scenery is sensed more than absconded in this show at the recently opened bob, a salon/exhibition space at 235 Eldridge Street. The glimpsed is entry point for a soothing engagement. Softened surfaces ease the viewer into the dream focus. Whether working in charcoal or oils, Lawton's tones add a margin of peaceful pacing to the acknowledged source.
Gestures stretch the views into pure painting. Shadows, line, and stroke layer on meaning and a playful interpretation that's grounded in the image like a theme come back to amid an improvisation. The textures add a wet glistening. The sun's a factor evidenced in adjustments in these shimmering images.
