Dragan Ilic is one of the most powerful and innovative
artists of the East Village/Rivington era. Ilic was
prolific in the streets, as well as in the studio, often
painting directly onto the brick city walls. His
experiments in robotics, as applied to the creation of a
work of art, are clearly ahead of their time. Dragan
showed his work at the Nada Gallery and was a frequent
visitor there. This video is of an installation that he
did at the notorious Civilian Warfare Gallery that was
directed by Dean Savard and Alan Belcher. This 1985 show
was at the Avenue B and 10th Street location of the
gallery after it had moved from its previous location on
East 11th Street between Avenues A and B.
