June 29, 2005, Salt Lake City, UT Two Utahns have been chosen by the ONE Campaign to represent the State at the Live 8 concert event in Philadelphia, PA this weekend. Dave Randle and Suzanne Winchester, both of Salt Lake City, will attend the event to meet with national representatives to discuss increasing the local awareness of this worldwide effort to fight global AIDS and extreme poverty.
Live 8 is an international day of action that calls on the leaders of the world's richest countries to put an end to extreme poverty and debt when they meet on July 6 at the G8 Summit in Gleneagles, Scotland. The series of Live 8 concert events will be televised Saturday, July 2nd to a global audience of up to two billion people on various TV and radio networks, including BBC, MTV and VH1.

Some of the Global Healing activities this past month have included working with the Salt Lake Mayors Office to issue a proclamation to declare July 1 and 2 White Band Day, hosting Fr. Centurio Olaboro from Uganda, Africa to share his experience in working with orphans whose parents have died of HIV-AIDS, and distributing information from the ONE Campaign to Global Healing Members and friends. Suzanne Winchester serves as public relations director for W Communications, and is a mother of three young children. She has organized numerous events in Salt Lake City to raise awareness for the ONE Campaign.
The ONE Campaigns objective is to raise awareness throughout America regarding global poverty and AIDS in light of these staggering statistics: in Africa alone, over 6,000 die per day from AIDS and AIDS-related illnesses; and over one billion people around the world survive on less than one dollar a day. Churches, schools and communities have come together across
religious and political divides to show their support for the campaign. ONE has also sponsored a national letter signing campaign urging President Bush to lead an historic deal with other G8 nations to help Africa and the poorest nations overcome global AIDS and extreme poverty.
The global poverty and AIDS crisis is so overwhelming that it can become difficult to comprehend, stated Winchester. But this campaign gives individual Americans the opportunity to have a positive impact the future of these countries. The driving force behind the ONE campaign is that every voice can make a difference, and that many voices together can make an even bigger difference.
Both Randle and Winchester will be available throughout the weekend (July 1-3) to provide local commentary on the event, assist with affiliate live feeds, etc. Please contact Suzanne Winchester at 801.201.1190 or Dave Randle at 801.750.6250.
