How Dare I Anyway?
Ok, I'm at your site. Now, what's the Point?
In the last election I voted for Gore, but I had a pretty good feeling
that Bush was going to win. It turns out I was right (basically.) I wasn’t
too worried about that possibility though because while I did believe there
were some significant differences between the candidates, I thought Bush would
be pretty inocuous. He might pass a few bad bills, say a few stupid things,
but nothing that couldn’t be cleaned up later. I figured if he could
just make it four years without making sick on anyones prime minister he’d
be doing pretty good. Plus, I am a child of the eighties. That means that I
can barely remember Carter and, with the weird exeption of Clinton, have had
Republican leaders in office all my life so it just seemed like business as
usual. I was used to being on the losing team.
I remember back to those innocent times when George Bush seemed a little stupid
but not particularly scary to me. Remember how he ran on a platform of being
a “uniter not a divider”? Remember how the media played up the
fact that he worked well with people across both party platforms? Well, W.
has not turned out to be the guy I was willing to accept. I am willing to bet he’s
not exactly who signed on for either. Now in 2004, I am seriousely concerned about this president and as I watched
this election stay close and degrade into more and more nastiness, I feel ever
more strongly that John Kerry must be elected.
Why did you even create this site?
Quite simply, I got tired of feeling helpless.
While I am not at all an expert on policy or
government, I have done my best to follow this president and the surrounding
events pretty closely. I’ve kept up with the papers, done a lot of reading
and tried to look at work that covered the entire stretch of liberal, moderate
and conservative points of view. I have then tried to make sense of it all
and gathered the things I found particularly interesting here.
Regardless of who you voted for in the last election, if you are having doubts
but might still cast your vote for Bush, (or Ralph Nader) please at least read
some of my website. I worked hard on it. I have tried very hard to be rational
in my arguments, to lay out my position as clearly as possible, and to generally use credible
major news sources.
So welcome to my website! Even if you don’t like it, you have to admit
that the very fact that I could create it and post it freely is partly why
this country so dang cool.
