Library and Resource Center

Head librarian and designer/manager of a micro-computer lab (1990-1995) for the Environmental Science Policy & Management Resource Center, a multi-service facility for undergraduate students focused on environment, economic development, biology, ecology and energy. I managed the collections, directed acquisitions and subscriptions (books, serials, pamphlets, reports, tapes, listings) and developed job and internship listings, career referral.

Radio and Television

Cal State Dominguez Hills: Distant Learning: two lectures: "Marine Fisheries", 1998, "Millenarianism and the Apocalyptic Imagination", 1999, guest of Don Gautier, instructor

Cable TV: Viacom Public Access, San Francisco. 1984-1988. "Interview with Latin America," featured the art and talent of the Latino Community in the San Francisco Bay.  I served as host of the 30 minute taped live bilingual weekly show produced by Jorge Bustamante and Mariluz Agudelo

KPFA-FM Pacifica Radio, Berkeley, News Dept./Public Affairs: 1979-1980, reporter for 2 years on elections, international background stories on political and economic issues and Latin America, and speeches by news makers at the Commonwealth Club, San Francisco. I created and narrated a 30 minute show called "The Politics of Hunger" Thanksgiving, 1979 with Francis More Lappé, author of Food First, and other experts in the area of agriculture and hunger.

Community Service

Isla Vista Community Food Cooperative, Santa Barbara, 1975: Participated in the coop's business activities at all levels, membership committees, stocking, cash registers. Represented the coop at regional meetings in Southern California

Isla Vista Community Federal Credit Union, 1975, loan officer and policy committee. Evaluated risk and interviewed applicants for small loans offered to members

Santa Cruz Homeless movement: Assisted organizers and community activists before and after the 1989 earthquake to find shelter and to press local government to establish a program for food and housing for homeless people.

Larkin Street Youth Center, 1990, San Francisco. I served as interpreter and assistant for the medical and legal services of this nationally recognized center for runaway minors. I specialized in bilingual assistance and outreach for homeless and unemployed Central American teens and provided tutoring and legal aid.

Los Angeles Human Rights Delegation, Chiapas, Mexico, 1998: Joined Chicago area Congressional and Methodist Delegations to San Cristobal de las Casas, Polho, and other towns to examine refugee situation and human rights abuses by local, state, and federal authorities against Mayan Indian supporters of the Zapatista rebellion.
