Tax Break for Filmmakers:

Did you know that motion picture companies are entitled to a cap of 1 percent on sales and use tax purchases or rentals of items used in the making of films in North Carolina? Depending on the size of your project, this can amount to the saving of significant dollars in production costs. Companies interested in the tax break need to register with the Sales and Use Tax Division of the North Carolina Department of Revenue, P.O. Box 25000, Raleigh, NC, or telephone (919) 733-3661. Upon registration, the company may present a completed Manufacturer's Certificate to each vendor at the time of purchase of tangible personal property which would enter into or become an ingredient or component part of the film produced, seen on the finished print.

In short, the financial savings to production companies from this policy are significant.

And the sooner the registration is applied for, the sooner the savings begin.
