The Reverend Gordon GilesI am the Vicar of St Mary Magdalene’s, Windmill
Hill, Enfield Chase, Middlesex. I am married to Jessica, who is a Law
Reporter. I am also Honorary
Chaplain of the Worshipful
Company of Cordwainers.
I was previously Succentor and
Senior Cardinal at St. Paul's Cathedral,
London.
Before that I was the Curate
at the Church of the Good
Shepherd, ordained deacon in Ely in June 1995, ordained priest on June 30th
1996.
Between 1992-95 I trained at Ridley Hall, Cambridge where I did the Cambridge University degree in Theology, the
Cambridge Certificate in Theology and Ministry, and many other much more
interesting things, such as play croquet and cricket.
Previously I worked for the Missions to
Seamen in the Port of Seaham Harbour, County Durham (just south of
Sunderland), where I visited ships and ran the bar. I went to that job having
done an M.Litt. in Philosophy at Magdalene College, Cambridge. I was also
a Choral Scholar at Queens' College,
Cambridge.
My thesis is all about
authentic performance in music, philosophically speaking, as it were. If I had
time, I'd try to get it published. But I haven't. But
here it is if you really want to read it.
Before going to Cambridge, I
got a First in music and aesthetics at Lancaster
University. And before that I studied at the United World College of
the Atlantic, at St. Donat's, in South Wales. As well as doing the International Baccalaureate there, I worked on
the farm, and generally had a good time. The College was founded by Kurt Hahn
to foster peace and international understanding.
I enjoy oil and watercolour
painting, cooking (and eating, drinking etc.), and all kinds of good music. I
play the flute, piano and percussion, and sing. I muck around with my Apple Mac
both for necessity and interest.
I am Treasurer of Christians
on the Internet (COIN), and a member of the
Advisory Committee of CTVC (Churches
Television Company).
Here
is a list of my publications.
If you want to know more,
you'll have to write to me.
