from "The Essentials" originally on "Healing" 1981 Rhino Records If you're bleeding, then everyone can see you're
bleeding
They can call for the doctor, who'll provide what the diagnosis says you're needing Then he'll take away your pain But if your heart-your heart has been broken And you don't wear it on your sleeve No one can tell; your hell goes unspoken But there's one thing you must believe: Time heals the wounds no one can see Time heals the wounds that no one can see If you're crying then everyone can see you crying And they all sympathize But it just doesn't matter, though they may be trying, They can't feel the hurt inside You can't go on; you've gone to the limit and your life seems to slip away You're on your own; alone you must face it, and tomorrow's so far away You got to hold on baby; got to give it time to heal Time heals the wounds that no one can see You must believe what they say is true: It do's wonders for ya, yeah, yeah

from "The Essentials" originally on "Something/Anything?" 1972 Rhino Records It was late last
night
I was feeling something wasn't right There was not another soul in sight Only you, only you So we walked along, though I knew there was something wrong And the feeling hot me oh so strong about you Then you gazed up at me and the answer was plain to see 'Cause I saw the light in your eyes Though we had our fling I just never would suspect a thing 'Til that little bell began to ring in my head In my head But I tried to run, though I knew it wouldn't help me none 'Cause I couldn't ever love no one, or so I said But my feelings for you were just something I never knew 'Til I saw the light in your eyes But I love you best It's not something that I say in jest (ha ha) 'Cause you're different, girl, from all the rest In my eyes And I ran out before but I won't do it anymore Can't you see the light in my eyes

from "Liars" 2004 Alchemedia Productions When I found out we could have some
brains
I was the first in line, 'cause we were, like Dragging our knuckles along the ground (dragging our knuckles along the ground) Ever since, I've been convinced that every Sacred thought is mine, and you were still Dragging your knuckles along the ground (dragging your knuckles along the ground) I think I'm there, dude (don't get ahead of yourself) I think I'm there, dude Already there And when they asked us who will lead I thought it surely must be me But I stood up too fast Because as soon as I was boss The next one in line took my head clean off 'Cause I stood up too fast I was barely in my teens when I decided I was tired Of always, like, dragging my knuckles along the ground So with all due haste I based until I got so freakin' wired Forgot I was dragging my knuckles along the ground I thought I was there, dude (you got ahead of yourself) I thought I was there, dude Already there And when they asked for volunteers I must have thought they said 'drink beers' And I stood up too fast I can imagine things that can't possibly exist And then I add them to an ever-expanding list And when I've solved every significant test there is I'll just move on no matter how many clues I've missed It's so easy to be smart but it's a struggle to be wise You shouldn't be always throwing your weight around It's much better to be humble than to have a big hat size Or you'll be just begging somebody to take you down And you'll be nowhere man (you got ahead of yourself) You'll be nowhere man Already there And right before your very eyes I have ignored my own advice 'Cause I stood up too fast And nobody has the slightest choice But to put up with my droning voice When I stood up to fast

from "The Essentials" originally on "The Ever Popular Tortured Artist Effect" 1990 Rhino Records I don’t want to
work
I want to bang on the drum all day I don’t want to play I just want to bang on the drum all day Ever since I was a tiny boy I don’t want no candy I don’t need no toy I took a stick and an old coffee can I bang on that thing ’til I got Blisters on my hand because When I get older they think I’m a fool The teacher told me I should stay after school She caught me pounding on the desk with my hands But my licks was so hot I made the teacher wanna dance And that’s why Listen to this Every day when I get home from work I feel so frustrated The boss is a jerk And I get my sticks and go out to the shed And I pound on that drum like it was the boss’s head Because I can bang that drum Hey, you wanna take a bang at it? I can do this all day
