The French Laundry

The bread was from a specialty bakery in Petaluma- our waiter went into an exhaustively thorough description of the bread and where it was baked. There were two varieties offered: the white and the wheat. I preferred the latter because it had a simple but engaging flavor, while the former was very ordinary. Overall, I could tell the bread was fresh but it was nothing to rave about, especially since it wasn't fresh and warm straight out of the oven. I'll admit I had much higher expectations for the bread at this renowned establishment, but it's pretty clear that people don't go to The French Laundry for the bread.
