Why is the version of Even Less on Stupid Dream much shorter than the one Porcupine Tree played on tour in 1998 ?
The version of "Even Less" that appears on the album clocks in at 7m11s. A much longer version (about 15 minutes), similar to the one played by the band at some of their concerts was also recorded during the sessions for Stupid Dream. The missing section is available on the "Stranger By the Minute" CD single. The full length unedited version of Even Less is available on the "Recordings" CD.

What is the meaning of the counting at the end of Even Less ?
The counting is taken from a recording of a shortwave numbers station. It is understood that these stations are used by intelligence agencies to transmit coded messages to overseas operatives, although no government agency has ever acknowledged the existence of these stations or what their actual purpose might be.

Who is the person talking on "Last Chance to Evacuate Planet Earth Before It is Recycled" ?
It is the leader of the Heaven's Gate religious cult Doe. This U.S. cult believed that they were from another planet and only visiting earth. In order to return to their own "dimension: before the earth was recycled they all committed mass suicide. The words are taken from the video they made before killing themselves to explain to the rest of the world why they had done it.

How can I get the Voyage 34 single ?
An album length CD containing all 4 phases of the Voyage 34 track is now available (Delerium Records DELEC CD074). The CD contains the first 2 phases (which comprised the original 30 minute single), plus the 19 minute Astralasia remix and the New Civilisation mix by SW featuring Richard Barbieri on synthesizers.

Where can I get copies of the vinyl releases Spiral Circus and Metanoia ? Will they be reissued on CD ?
Unfortunately, the only way to get these is to look for second hand copies. These were limited edition releases long since sold out. There are no plans to reissue Spiral Circus in any form, but a CD issue of Metanoia is planned for 2001.

Where can I get the Yellow Hedgerow Dreamscape CD and will it be reissued ?
This was limited to 2,500 copies CDs when it was released in 1994. These are all sold out and the only way to get it now is to look for a second hand copy. However, a deluxe gatefold sleeve vinyl edition with improved sound and extensive sleeve notes was issued by Gates of Dawn Records in February 2000. There are no plans for another CD edition at present.

Where can I get the deleted Porcupine Tree singles and will they be reissued ?
Scheduled for release in early 2001 is extensive double CD / triple vinyl retrospective of Porcupine Tree between 1991-97 that will include all the Delerium era singles and rarities along with a selection of highlights from each album recorded for the label. Of the singles released on Snapper some are still available, but others (particularly the 7 inch singles and limited CDs) are not. There are no plans at present to reissue the tracks found on these singles.

Why don't the band come and play in *insert town name here* ?
The band rely on offers from promoters to play concerts. These offers have to take into account who will promote the show most enthusiastically and a fee that will cover as much of the financial loss as possible (PT nearly always loose money doing a concert). The band are not always able to choose exactly where they play.

Why has *insert song name here* never been played live ?
Sometimes tracks that work well in the studio do not translate to live performance. This can often be because something that was achievable in the studio is not possible live. A good example of this is the studio track "Stars Die" which superimposes an almost whispered lead vocal over a band playing at full volume ! In the past the band have come up with different arrangements in order to play tracks live, but this is not always possible.

Do Porcupine Tree have plans to issue a live video ?
Eventually the band do intend to release an official live performance video/DVD, hopefully also to include some documentary footage. Shooting and editing a video is expensive and to date there have been other priorities, but the band hope to finally get this underway in the near future.

Why don't the band come and tour in the U.S.A. ?
The band would love to tour the U.S.A. again. The problem is that on their last 10 date U.S. tour they lost about $1000 a day and ended up paying for this themselves. It was rewarding my financially crippling. A future tour would have to be paid for by a prospective U.S. label. However, PT do plan to come to the U.S. in 2001 to make some one-off festival appearances.

What equipment does Steven use on stage ?
He plays an ESP Stratocaster guitar. This goes through a wah-wah pedal, volume pedal, Rat distortion, Boss distortion, compressor, Alesis Quadraverb and TC2290 digital delay. His amplifier of choice is a VOX AC30.

Which keyboards does Richard Barbieri use ?
He uses a Sequential Circuits Prophet V, a Roland D50, an Ensoniq VFX and a Roland System 700 Modular analogue synthesizer.

What is Porcupine Tree's policy on fans taping gigs and the trading and selling of live recordings ?
The band have no problem with shows being audio taped discreetly (anyone blatantly doing it at the front of the stage will be asked to stop). Video taping concerts is generally not allowed. The band have no problem with fans trading live recordings privately (but advertising them on a web page is not acceptable).

THE BAND WILL BE EXTREMELY PISSED OFF TO FIND ANYONE SELLING (OR AUCTIONING ON EBAY) LIVE RECORDINGS ON CDR OR CASSETTE FOR PERSONAL PROFIT !!

Who is the Incredible Expanding Mindfuck and what does it sound like ?
The IEM is one of Steven's solo projects (with guest drummer). The music is best described as a continuation of the more abstract and psychedelic instrumental music on early Porcupine Tree albums. It is also influenced by Krautrock.

What does the name Porcupine Tree mean ?
Don't ask.

What is the music that was played before and after Porcupine Tree performances during 2000-01 ?
The music is from an album by Canadian techno artist Plastikman called "Consumed", released by Novamute in 1998 (Nomu65CD).

Who is Christine Keelker as mentioned in "Piano Lessons" ?
Christine Keeler was a prostitute who was involved in a notorious scandal in Britain in the sixties that resulted in the downfall of a leading politician John Profumo. As the song "Piano Lessons" is partly about the apparently random nature of celebrity, SW used Keeler as a symbol of someone who found their fifteen minutes of fame through means which involved very little of what one might call conventional "talent" !
