Simple Improv-The Book

A simple approach for the beginning improviser.
This book is designed to guide you in finding the simplest way possible to begin improvisation. You will be improvising quickly and effectively using a small, select group of notes. We'll use a horizontal approach to improvisation, blanketing a chord progression with one scale. In the beginning, I feel it is more important to learn the thought processes and practice techniques to help us express our creativity. As we achieve success with this knowledge, we can then learn more scales and chords.

Important features of the book:

Students start improvising by using one simple 5-note scale.
Different approaches to practicing the scale are shown in a logical step-by-step manner.
Each chapter builds on skills learned in the previous chapter while exposing the student to different chord progressions or rhythmic feel.
Students are always playing notes that fit in, which enables them to play more confidently and helps train their ear.
Eight different playalong tracks are used for individual or group practice.
As students get more comfortable at improvising, one of several jazz band pieces may be learned to showcase their talent in performance.
By the end of the book, they are capable of improvising on a major blues, a minor blues, and a 32 bar progression.

Simple Improv is 37 pages long, contains fourteen chapters, and many exercises for the eight playalong tracks. The book retails for $10.00 and is available in C, Bb, Eb, and Bass Clef versions.
