WINTER, 575 CY

In the Blemu Hills, Aegis Sol (half-orc monk) of the Journeymen (followers of Fharlangn) is given a quest by his master: use the crudely drawn map supplied and journey to the far and distant land known as The East Mark, south of the Free City of Greyhawk. His quest is to find and repair the hidden shrine of Fharlangn in that region, and investigate the enigma of the demi-god called Zagyg.

Aegis stops by the local shrine of Obad-Hai to speak his farewell to an old friend . . .

Jal Greencloak (half-elf ranger/druid) presently serves His Noble Grace Dunstan, Count of Blemu, Lord of Knurl. Jal is dissatisfied with both his lord and his service to said lord, and as such wishes to dissociate himself. Jal also serves the local shrine of Obad-Hai, where his old friend, Aegis Sol (half-orc monk) has stopped by to bid farewell, as he is embarking on a long journey. The arch-druid is present when this farewell is exchanged.

The arch-druid approaches and claims this to be a most fortuitous circumstance, for he has need of some small conveyance to this East Mark where the half-orc is to venture. Jal is given a strange, glass-like, pockmarked stone to bring to the arch-druid of Old Oaks Grove. The stone should be delivered on Godsday of the coming Needfest.

And so this unlikely pair of half-breeds venture forth, crossing into the Flinty Hills. There, after several days of travel, they are welcomed in by the gnomish king, Warren ap'Hiller. At a banquet they meet Flint Amberwood (gnome bard/illusionist), a scholarly fellow who speaks of going on a grand journey to the central Flanaess. Aegis and Jal invite the gnome to travel with them, when Flint mentions another companion, one whom he has recently afforded shelter to . . .

After a long and treacherous escape from the Underdark, Talvic'Tyrr (drow magic-user), now going by the name of Victor, was surprised to find the gnomes of the Flinty Hills treating him kindly. It may have been fear of his race that compelled them so; notwithstanding, the sage gnome Flint Amberwood spoke of venturing to a land where there are many races and people are generally free. Of course, a drow will always be persecuted by the elves of the surface world, but the place where Flint journeys to may be a more hospitable arrangement.

Thus, Victor joins Flint and a pair of adventuring wayfarers going the same way: the half-orc, Aegis Sol, and the half-elf, Jal Greencloak. Jal is at first suspicious of the drow, but these suspicions are soon allayed as half-orc, half-elf, drow, and gnome become a small adventuring party.

### SUNSEB 1, 575 CY ###

The four travellers have escaped dangerous bands of humanoid and barbarian bandits and venture into the Duchy of Urnst. One horse dies, and the other is let free as the travellers gain passage on a Rhennee barge, thanks to the Flint Amberwood's knowledge of their customs and language.

Now they travel down the Franz River to the central lake of Nyr Dyv, this fleet of barges led by one Captain Miklos. There are two other non-Rhennee folk among them, and these are Silus Cespian (high elf cleric/thief) and Arthur Kane (human fighter), both hailing from Stoink. Silus resists the ages-old urge to slay the drow on sight, for evil is often the norm at the City-State of Stoink, and one must adapt or perish -- but he does not have to like the drow.

Herein is the tale of Silus the high-elf cleric/thief Erevan Ilesere, and Arthur Kane, the human fighter . . .
