OVERVIEW

According to EDD Labor Market Information, the hospitality industry ranks in the top four employment categories in the tri-county area (EDD, 4/2004). The Wine Appreciation and Marketing Certificate ties the Horticulture and Culinary Arts programs together by bringing together winemaking, the business of winemaking, and grape growing. The addition of beginning and intermediate winemaking impacts the Culinary Arts program with the addition of optional curriculum that is essential to the success of any student pursuing a career in this field.  For students in the Hospitality Management program there are optional courses for those pursuing management careers, to attain skills in wine marketing and product evaluation. Students pursuing a track in Horticulture have the ability to attain the skills of grape growing from local winemakers that will be transferable to four-year institutions. In Culinary Arts, Hospitality Management, and Horticulture, the certificate courses will translate into additional coursework enabling students to be more marketable and successful in operational and business realms.
