It's sno' fun on Chili Avenue! (Fight Crime: Build a "SnowGirl"!)

Having a blast with my next-door-neighbor kids who are a hoot and a half. Some pics and a video of a skit they developed while warming up with hot chocolate on my porch on Saturday. Be prepared to giggle!

Here are some pics of neighbor kids and our “snowgirl” we built Saturday.

Unfortunately after we took the pics we had to remove all the thief attractors (hat, scarf, flowers, etc.) and leave the poor girl nekkid. And she lost her head overnight.

Notice the two squad cars in the background in the pic of Jason with the shovel. We were having so much fun I never even saw them until I uploaded the images onto the computer much later. Wondering what they were up to!

And here’s a video of a skit the kids developed while we were warming up drinking hot chocolate on my porch.

Be prepared to giggle.

I hear tell I’m annoying a few people by having so much fun outdoors. Interferes with business. :-)

Fight crime. Build a snowgirl. Do a play. Laugh uproariously and roll around in the snow.

The children are my ground, my reason for doing what I do. They keep me sane, joyful and committed. I’m never happier or more carefree than when I am playing with them. As my daughter used to say, “Mom, you are just a great big kid.” At the time, that was supposed to be an insult :-). Of course, now she appreciates it as I get down and play with the grandkids.

It was the children on Union Street who inspired my involvement in the first place. I’ve never been the same since. I am just so happy I’ve been able to finally connect with kids in my new neighborhood, and I know it makes a difference that the "bad boyz" see me out playing. Somewhere deep down in their hearts I believe most of them recognize a good soul. I think it is one of the things that keeps me safe. It’s hard to hate someone who laughs so joyfully with children...and acts so silly herself!

I know I've seen a few of them watching from across the street.

If we can touch the child inside the hardest of hearts, we have some solid ground to stand on to build real change.
