A song to sing, some light to shine

For fun & entertainment (and possible inspiration), I am posting some lyrics I wrote, adapting “This Little Light of Mine” as a “theme song” I would sing to myself to give me courage back when I was facing down the dealers on Union St. Songs have always been central to any movement, so I offer this as one for ours.

TAKING BACK OUR NEIGHBORHOOD

Lyrics adapted by Georgia NeSmith from "This Little Light of Mine"

Open with first verse of traditional version:

This little light of mine, I'm gonna let it shine
This little light of mine, I'm gonna let it shine
This little light of mine, I'm gonna let it shine
Let it shine, let it shine, let it shine

Then...

We're taking back our neighborhood, one street at a time
We're taking back our neighborhood, one street at a time
We're taking back our neighborhood, one street at a time
Let it shine, let it shine, let it shine

We're gonna drive those dealers out, one street at a time
(etc.)

We're gonna take those guns away, one street at a time
(etc.)

We're gonna make those kids obey, one street at a time
(etc.)

All around the neighborhood, I'm gonna let it shine
(etc.)

All around the city, I'm gonna let it shine
(etc.)

We're gonna live in peace, 'cause I'm gonna let it shine
(etc.)
