Loitering solution ;-)

Drive loiterers away with Barry Manilow?

Apparently, a town in Australia has been successfully driving away loiterers by playing Barry Manilow over loudspeakers (though not without complaints from upstanding citizens as well!).

This jibes with my own recent experience successfully driving away youthful trespassers occupying the porch next to my own by singing from Rod Stewart’s “Great American Songbook” (listening to the songs on my laptop with earphones blocking out the kids’ trash talk).

Poor things. At one point one boy held his hands over his ears.

Can you imagine such music piped out around our corner stores and other places where loitering (and hence other problems, such as drug dealing) has been an ongoing problem?

In order to avoid complaints from innocent residents forced to endure this assault on their senses, perhaps store/property owners in a position to notice could just play the music whenever two or more are gathered...

I’m having fun with this (LOL). But still, it could work!

Seriously, I am wondering what might happen to the violence quotient if soothing music (classical and/or new age meditative) were to be constantly in the background.
