FIGHT CRIME! DO YARDWORK! (STORY #2)

Lions and tigers and bears, oh my!

I was out in front again today, digging space to plant flowers once potential for frost has passed. They tried a few theatrical things, such as sending a couple I know to be dealers down my side of the street, who then stood there a few feet away from me while I worked.

Lions and tigers and bears, oh my!

I knew they wanted to get me off the street because as long as I am there they can't do business, at least not on the corner.

If I wasn't scared by the performance yesterday, don't know why they would think what they did today would scare me!

Some of them I just ignored -- the ones I knew to be major dealers or frequent buyers. Others I smiled at and said hello to.

Two women stopped to talk to me. At first I was leery but then I realized they just wanted to know where in the neighborhood they could buy yard tools like mine. So I told them about Mayers Hardware on Winton, which is reachable by bus. They were really sweet and grateful for the info, so I don't think they were druggies.

On Sunday one man coming up Kenilworth while I was working on the side yard and said, "Thank you! Thank you so very much!" At first I thought he was talking about my clean-up efforts and planting. And then I realized he was talking about the fact that I was outdoors, and as long as I am outdoors... Well, about my OTHER clean-up efforts.

Later I decided to open my curtains in the front and wash the windows. Then I left the curtains open. Let me tell you, the street has been pretty quiet, at least in terms of dealing.

Yes. The tide truly has turned.

To my pals on the RPD: Thanks for the drive-bys!

I hear guys out there right now repeating my name. Ha. Like that scares me!

At least they are pronouncing it right. >:>
