FIGHT CRIME! DO YARDWORK! (STORY #3)More diggin' and crime
fightin'
Had a big day today, doin' more diggin' and crime
fightin'. A little worn out from it so I am staying away from my windows
tonight. Told Jane as she helped me pick up my yard tools, well, they need to
eat (and so do I!), so I'll go inside for
now.
I was out I think for about 3 hours. Ended up calling 911 three times (and pretending several more). I call for real only when they try to do a deal right in my face. Can't let that go by. Otherwise my being outside won't make a whit of difference. Lots of drama. Ended up eventually making the acquaintance of Officer Gadke (I think that's how you spell his name...he's young & cute, so I didn't look close at his badge!), who came out to take a field report after my third call. He was very apologetic about not getting out earlier, but I said don't sweat it. I know we aren't going to do this with 911 calls. Explained about all that I am doing, and tried to point him in the direction of the stash. I'll bet it's there in plain sight...and that's why it's so hard to find. We had a good long talk & he was very appreciative of all I'm doing, so I just made another good buddy on the force. That was worth every minute of the work I did today. Among various things the dealers did: My first call went out when they tried to do a deal in my face. Of course, I had to go inside to make the call and they knew immediately, so the buyers took off. I knew that would happen. I told the dispatcher to just send someone by -- I have to make them think I am calling 911 every time I pick up my phone, so every once in a while I need an officer to come by to make my own version of street theater believable. Anyway, when the officer finally did come by it actually turned out to be really GREAT timing. They weren't dealing, but they had about five or six guys out being boisterous and making a big racket, thinking that's going to scare this ol' white lady. The officer came by right when they were in the middle of it. (I know this officer has been by my place before & we have talked -- unfortunately I forget his name.) Parked his car a little ways down from the gang. Uh oh! I heard the guys talking about not having their licenses. They packed up and drove off in a hurry. It was quiet for a while after that. Then I noticed a red Honda 4-door and the dealer going up to it north side of the corner. I picked up my phone & the car took off while I was talking to the dispatcher. But the was back several times later. Guess the dealer got the cash but couldn't give them the stash! Couldn't because they couldn't get to it. Cuz I was out there watching. They finally sent a kid around to pick it up. Poor thing. Well, I still had to call even though I knew if the kid got caught with the stash, nothing would happen. And I really didn't want the kid in trouble. He was probably just doing what he was told by his "elders." Damn, that makes me so mad! When they involve the kids... Well, the kid disappeared while I was talking to the dispatcher. And of course the officers were busy on higher priority calls. But that's ok. Because for several hours I really annoyed the hell out of those #$@#$@# across the street, and when the officers did finally show up (2 cars), it helped to show that I have you guys behind me. And that's all I really needed anyway. Oh...eventually the Honda did come back a fourth time and they distracted me with a fake fight so they could do the pass. Didn't come to blows, otherwise I WOULD have dialed 911. Jane was with me while that was going on. And more... Dee, one of the watchers, finally came over and asked me "What are you doing?" I said, "What does it look like I'm doing?" She said, "You going to dig up that whole yard?" I said, "No, just around the hedges and the sidewalk. Then I'm going to plant flowers." "Like you did on the side? "Yep. And then I'm going to spend lots of time outside this summer enjoying the fruits of my labor!" Lordy. Lordy. What ARE they going to do about me? (Giggle. I'm really enjoying this!) Ok, time for me to relax. I've had a very big day! Posted: Sun - April 23, 2006 at 10:10 AM |

About The Author
My name is Georgia NeSmith. "Random Acts of Love" is my weblog, but I have numerous other websites you can link to through this blog. "Random Acts of Love" began in February, 2004, and I have been posting to it fairly steadily ever since, although there are a few months when illness and other issues have kept me away. I write about nearly everything under the sun. I also do a lot of photography and digital art and I teach journalism online. Recently I've also started posting videos to YouTube. When I am not doing that, I am trouble-shooting Mac computer issues. Oh, yeah. I also do a lot of community activism. (Can anyone say ADD? I call it AEG -- "attention excess gift.") I hope you enjoy reading what you find here, and that you will respond to the things you like (and argue with me over things you don't!). "The difficult I'll do right now
The impossible will take a little while."
