ROCHESTER NEW YORK: PAC-TAC SATURATION AT UNION AND WELD STREETS 5/8/06
A link to my photo page from last night's Rochester Police And Citizens Together Against Crime saturation at Union and Weld Streets (my corner, just across from me). I WALKED on Weld Street for the first time in the near seven years I've been here. Thank God CompUSA finally got my camera working and
back to me today! Just in the nick of
time...
Here they are, hot off the “press”: photos from today’s Rochester PAC-TAC (Police and Citizens Together Against Crime) saturation @ Union and Weld Streets. Good time was had by all. We made a few new friends. Put a few not-so-friendly folks in their places. I WALKED on Weld Street for the first time in the near seven years I've been here (seven years June 1). This is where a lot of the drug dealing goes on when it is not on the corner. (BTW, we have practically emptied that corner!). Felt so powerful standing on the corner with Deputy Chief Jim Sheppard, Watch Commander Pete Brunett, and Lt. Mark Merklinger -- in exactly the same spot the dealers used to stand. This corner is MINE now! Ran into a whole lot of cute kids who are sweet as can be and need a lot of help because their parents have practically nothing. I want to have a backyard story hour for these kids this summer, and I want to be able to give them each a book or two they can take home and keep. Who could resist such charming faces? That's what this is all for -- it is for the children. ![]() ![]() ![]() Also saw a lot of empty, boarded up buildings and houses. This is the shame of the city -- I understand most of these are city property. I'm thinking I'm going to expand my photo project from just the corner to include Weld Street. See if some grownups will allow me to take their portraits, too. BTW, you can buy “Grow with Marketview Heights” custom products (as well as other great stuff) @ my Cafepress.com website. (Shameless commercial self-promotion! No apologies. I need the money!) Posted: Mon - May 8, 2006 at 10:04 AM |

About The Author
My name is Georgia NeSmith. "Random Acts of Love" is my weblog, but I have numerous other websites you can link to through this blog. "Random Acts of Love" began in February, 2004, and I have been posting to it fairly steadily ever since, although there are a few months when illness and other issues have kept me away. I write about nearly everything under the sun. I also do a lot of photography and digital art and I teach journalism online. Recently I've also started posting videos to YouTube. When I am not doing that, I am trouble-shooting Mac computer issues. Oh, yeah. I also do a lot of community activism. (Can anyone say ADD? I call it AEG -- "attention excess gift.") I hope you enjoy reading what you find here, and that you will respond to the things you like (and argue with me over things you don't!). You can e-mail me directly from the "Feedback" link that is included with every post. This weblog is provided free of charge. However, if you like what you read here and want to ensure that it stays online, you can make a donation through PayPal below. Or you can go to my giftshop at CafePress.com and purchase my greeting cards, post cards, pillows, mugs, and soon posters and prints. You can also read samples of my creative work and see my photography and artwork on my creative website. Photo Albums and Website Menus
