COBBS HILL IN JANUARYEnough already! Gray, cold days, snow and
icy pavements, have kept me indoors too long. Finally got out on the outdoor
bike today and managed the Cobbs Hill ride again, despite being away from it for
a month.
Ok, I just couldn't stand it anymore. I had to get
out on the outdoor bike. I figured, upper 30s, no major wind, and relatively dry
pavement (i.e., no ice), I could do it.
I wasn't planning on Cobbs Hill. Haven't had much sleep lately, working so hard on resolving computer problems, getting into my hyperfocus stage where I just can't let go of what I'm doing, until my brain just blitzes out. I figured I'd just get myself to the park and back. But then, when I got to the entrance to the reservoir hill, well, I just couldn't ride away from the challenge. I wanted to see how well I could manage it. Turns out I took the hill fairly easily, staying in higher gears longer and riding faster. So the indoor bike has not only helped me to maintain my fitness, it has improved it. Started out a bit weird, though. I thought somebody had been messing with my bike because it felt so strange sitting on it. Adjusted the seat, messed with the handlebars, then realized that I was just used to the seating arrangement on the indoor bike. Anyway, here's hoping all the body work I've been doing lately will help me more easily manage the recovery from my neuroma surgery, scheduled for January 23. One thing is for certain, my legs are strong! I'm sure that will help me with stability on the crutches, among other things. Of course, it will be just my luck that Rochester will finally get a major snowstorm right about then, when we've had no more than a few inches here and there all winter!
