"Lancia" Rides the wind

Wind gusts up to 40 mph today. Managed Cobb's Hill anyway...even though I wasn't planning to do it when I started out!

Ok, three days straight of bike riding again. Sunday skipped the big hill -- figured I should start back up easy, especially with my back problems. But yesterday I decided I really wanted to see that view and possibly snap a few. So I pushed myself.

There are four "milestones" on the way up -- markers alongside the road. I use these to psych myself out when it's hard. I count the markers as I go up. That way I am only working on a small part of the hill at a time. Eventually, I get there.

I wasn't planning to do Cobb's Hill when I started out today. I wasn't sure how far I would actually make it. Maybe to the park, but no farther. I was tired and achy -- didn't sleep as long as I need to. I was out at 8:30 in the morning, and normally I don't even crawl out of bed until 10, because my body won't sleep until after around 2 a.m. But by the time I got to the hill, I thought, what the hell.

Thing was, the wind was blowing so hard. Wind gusts up to 40 mph. At a couple of spots I was nearly blown off my bike. If I had wings, I could have flown. That's one big reason why I thought I wouldn't bother with the hill. If you are pushing first gear on the flat lands because of wind gusts like that...well, that's harder than riding up a hill.

Very warm yesterday and today. Topped off at 66 yesterday. When I saw this morning's temp -- at 64, with a dramatic change expected in the afternoon, down to the 40s, with rain (there's a floodwatch right now). I figured I should grab it while I had it.

Great timing. The minute I got back, the downpour started. I would have been ok out in it because I had my poncho in the backpack, but I was glad to not have to deal with it.

Some views from Cobb's Hill today:
