I am deeply concerned about the recent spate of
violence in Rochester, particularly last week's "war on the streets" -- seven homicides in six days. In response, and
officially representing the Rochester Society of Friends (Quakers), I
attended yesterday's clergy summit on violence -- an effort on the
part of Rochester's Christian churches to come together and respond with
solutions.
I volunteered to serve on the steering committee responsible for coordinating these efforts. I am looking forward to the opportunity to respond to the problems I see outside my window in ways that don't involve the police so much, and instead focus on the underlying issues.
