What can I say about drawing and painting that you probably haven't already read somewhere else? Well, I honestly don't know. But then, that's not why I'm writing. These are odd thoughts I have about what I love to do, namely draw and paint. These entries will be off the cuff, seat of the pants kinds of things rather than trying to write with tons of finessing and nudging. I just want to throw ideas down and leave them, blemishes and all.
Discovery is a big part of what I love about making art. I like diving in and seeing what's going to happen. I don't like knowing ahead of time where the piece will go. I'd rather be a passenger sometimes than a driver all the time. I want to be as surprised as I hope a viewer might be. It makes things interesting and keeps me on my toes. Serendipity and spontaneity are tops on my list.
Not a long-winded beginning, but it's late and I hear my new daughter, Mary, crying upstairs. Time for her bottle, then maybe some sleep for me and my wife. More to come. Thanks for reading.
