Please use the links above to find out information on contest flying and tips for doing the events.

The Contest is also part of the monthly BRB Launch, so you can Sport fly as well as fly contest events.

Hudson Classic Hobbies will be attending, to be an on-site vendor at the Contest and launch.

The Contest is open to anyone who wants to compete, whether an NAR member or not.

Entry fees are $2 for Junior fliers, and $5 for Senior fliers.

The Contest Event Tips were originally created for NARAM-46 which had 1/2A Copter, A Boost Glide, and B Eggloft Duration.

The tips have been modifed slightly. Some unique reference to NARAM-46 might remain.

For questions, contact George Gassaway or use the BRB Discussion Board.

Do not be overwhelmed by the information. It is there for you to make use of to the extent that you want to.

The VERY basics are these:

1/2A Parachute Duration - The model has to be flown using a 1/2A type engine. The model has to stay in one piece, no parts can fall free. Two flights allowed, the scoring is that BOTH flight times are added together. ONE of the flights has to be returned. Two models allowed.

B Eggloft Duration - The model has to stay attached, so the capsule and main body need to come down together on the same shock cord. The objective is to fly the model with egg for as long as you can, and get it back without breaking the egg. Scoring is the best single flight out of two allowed. Two models allowed.

1/2A Helicopter Duration - The model has to come down on one piece, no parts can be dropped. It needs to use helicopter recovery or autorotation recovery. Two flights allowed, the scoring is that BOTH flight times are added together. ONE of the flights has to be returned. Two models allowed.

1/2A Boost Glide Duration - The model can come down in more than one part (such as using a Pop-pod), the glider part is timed. Take note that an engine can not be ejected by itself, so if the design kicks an engine the engine needs to have a streamer. Two flights allowed, the scoring is that BOTH flight times are added together. ONE of the flights has to be returned. Two models allowed.

Sport Scale - A model of a REAL rocket, that flew. If has to be a "model rocket" using no more than G engine power, and under 1500 grams (3.3 pounds). It is judged for appearance and scale qualities before flight, and then the flight is also judged. You can fly it twice if you want, but only the best flight score is used.
You do need to have some accompanying Data to go with it, but for Sport Scale that can be as little as a photograph. It is desirable to have a bit more than just a photograph, such as an outline drawing, and better still some drawings or extra photographs that help to document the colors, markings and details. For more info, see the Tip page for Sort scale. If you have questions, or problems finding info to help document your model, please contact me. It is far better for all of us to work out any data issues before the contest than during the contest itself.

The events chosen for the contest are relatively low power, 1/2A for Parachute, 1/2A for Copter, 1/2A for Boost Glide, and B For Eggloft Duration. And whatever engine you want for Sport Scale (up to G power). The low power was chosen so that there would be little chance of models flying away or being lost.
