Kyle and Tania's wedding in Kauai

Princeville Resort was the setting for this amazing wedding. Ann and I had two awesome clients that were up for anything. I met these two back in July of 2006 at Mike and Robyn's wedding down in Cabo San Lucas. Tania just finish a semester at Law school and it was time to celebrate. 80+ family and close friends made it out Kauai. Besides who would turn down a tip to Hawaii.

This was the view from the bridal suite.

Tania had lots of beautiful details to photograph.

Amazing orchid bouquets.

I love long veils. Lots the play with when photographing.

A quite moment during the ceremony.

The ceremony took place under the trees along the shoreline.

Conch shell blower after the ceremony.

Headed down to the beach for sunset portraits.

Tania really loved the way her dress blew in the wind. It made for a very elegant portrait.

Ann wanted to do some portraits using the doorway. I am always inspired by her vision.

Kyle wanted some night shots of the location.

Lots of reception details.

First dance shots. Always, amazing.

It was one of those weddings. Lots to shoot and tons of fun to be at. Thanks Kyle and Tania for getting us out to hawaii. Thanks for having Ann and I photograph your wedding day. We had a blast and enjoyed every moment. Call me when you get back from Tahiti.

Kacy and Greg's wedding in the bahamas

Ahh the Bahamas. How can you not love the Bahamas. Ann and I squeezed in some down time on this trip and got to photograph a amazing wedding for Kacy and Greg. Kacy had hired me over the phone/email months ago. So this was the first time we met. As soon as she saw me, she said that she felt like she already knew me because of this blog. LOL. There were so many great candid shots in this wedding, I wanted to post a few of my favorites. ENJOY. I am off to catch my plane.

Always good to let boys be boys.

DARE TO BE...FUN.

Lots of great details.

First dance shots are so.... check out the family in tears. This another reason I love my job. I get to witness these times and record them for my bride and grooms.

Quick walk on the beach.

Ann loves this shot because they make a heart.

On to the reception. My dance shots rock. This was one crazy party. They danced all night long and kept talking about a bike ride into the pool the night before. LOL. :)

So can your bestman do this?

Or can your groom do this? Mine can. LOL.

Thanks for everything, Kacy and Greg.

Osomo and Sylvia's day after shoot

We all recouped from the wedding and the next day went around the city for a day after shoot. Ron and Tony from Cinematic Studios shot the wedding with Ann and I. So of course had to be there for the day after shoot. I think we are doing a mini movie on the shoot. As for the shoot I went for a very fashion feel. It worked. Stay tuned. Here are a mix of my favorite shots.

Ann Hamilton grabbed all the behind the scene shots. THANKS ANN.

Ann had a great idea of using the dog. You know Ann and her dogs. Well, the dog was perfect. It was an albino miniature Doberman, sporting a black harness.

This wall was classic.

Check out the cool Lambrogini in the back ground.

I have seen so many movies shot on this very street. It was always a dream of mine to be able to shoot there.

The same goes with this street.

It was time to grab some food. Long day and a very cool shoot.

Osomo and Sylvia weding in Brooklyn, New York

It was back in 2005 that Alan and Amy were married in Salamanca, Spain that I first met Osomo and Sylvia. Osomo had first approached me about doing a wedding in Jamaica and Sylvia was actually in the wedding. fast forward 2006 Sylvia called and asked what dates I was open for and planned the wedding date around my availability. Flattered of course. It was off to New York for a amazing wedding. Here are some of my favorites, can you say sample album?

Getting ready at the Ritz Carlton, Battery Park.

Sylvia's MOH was not able to attend because she is on bed rest during her pregnancy. I was actually traveling the guys and jumped out of the car in the middle of traffic and grabbed this shot. They wanted to connect on the way to the church.

They decided to see each other before the wedding. The Brooklyn Botanical Gardens made for a awesome backdrop. It had been raining that morning, we all decided to go for it. The clouds gave us great light to work in all day. And you know me a fiend for good light. But, I love this shot. Osomo, his smile is priceless.

Roll out the Red carpet and Velvet ropes for this bride and groom. Like my boy John Griffin would say. Now that classy, real classy.

Stiener Studios, a Abigail Kirsh location. It is a live studio set where movies are filmed. Beyonce' was there the week before getting ready to go on tour. And where the new Spiderman was filmed. Very cool.

So Osomo's fraternity brothers created a circle around them and sang. This is something that is only done at weddings for other brothers. But, no one except the bride and groom are allowed in the center. But, Paul the bestman, said for some reason they all trusted me and allowed me to be in there to photograph it. I grabbed this very emotional shot, and was lucky to be there.

I have always said this from the beginning of my career, that it was always the client that made the job. Yes, I do travel to exotic locals and see some of the most beautiful weddings, but it is the client that will make the wedding. Lots of my clients have become good friends and I like to keep it that way.

Elias and Claudia's wedding in Playa Del Carmen

What better way to celebrate Cinco De Mayo. Here I am back in Mexico for another cool wedding. I was just down here in March the week before WPPI shooting with John Griffin and it was good to be back.

The wedding was very intimate. Held in a small catholic church in the middle of town. 33 guest who knew how to party BIG.

There was rice being thrown everywhere as soon as they exited the church. We had some many tourist and locals waiting for the bride and groom.

Claudia and Elias had one of the best recessionals ever. We walked down Avenue 5 complete with bridal party, families, friends, Mariachis and two men walking on stilts. We had the whole town screaming clapping. It was time to PARTY.

The colors of the water in Playa Del Carmen is always amazing.

Don Julio Tequila set the tone for the reception. I think I saw the waiters come out at least 5 times during the night trays full of shots. Everyone danced the night away. The wedding was perfect. One of the best Cinco De Mayo celebrations, ever!!!

Angelica and Johan's wedding in Barbados

This week I found myself a bit jet lagged and in the Caribbean. This was one of my quickest destination weddings so far. Two days, So I really only had time for some reading pool side. I have been on full speed ahead since the beginning of the year and needed the down time. Blogging this morning from the Barbados airport after shooting a wedding last night. While Ann and Tanya are in Yosemite freezing in the snow photographing a wedding I am here missing out on all the fun. If you know me, I love the snow and can't wait to go snowboarding.

September I did their engagement session in San Francisco, and knew the wedding day was going to be just as fun. I had a mix of swedish and mexican cultures while everyone was dressed in pink and white. The ceremony took place at Amaryllis Beach Resort on the sand during sunset and made some great light for the evening. Here are some shots I grabbed last night.

Simple elegant jewelry.

Johan and his entourage.

The bride taking a moment for herself before the ceremony.

\

Showered with rice as they were pronounced husband and wife.

See what I mean about amazing light.

The reception started with games for the guest to play. This one, they all played a quiz. The questions were scattered in the sand.

The guest then painted a canvas for the bride and groom.

Here is the best man singing a swedish song with the flag to represent.

Ended the night with some Cubans. NICE!!!

Mike and Matika's wedding in Bangkok, Thailand

Sawasdee Ka / Krup (Thai lesson #1, that’s “Hello”)
Well, the wedding day was here. Ann and I were ready to create some killer wedding wedding images. We had a 10 hour day ahead of us with multiple locations. Ann went ahead and did some getting ready for the girls and I stayed behind to to hang with the guys. We had a catholic ceremony and a reception at the Sukhothai Hotel. Here are some of the shots from the wedding day and the day after shoot. The day after shoot was done at some of the ruins and temples outside of the city.

It meant allot to Mike to have his brother there. I grabbed this before the ceremony of him working on his speech. By the way the speech had the room in tears.

The dramatic entrance of the bride.

Sometimes it's the small moments between the bride and groom that make a wedding.

They were showered with crown flowers as the were pronounced husband and wife.

I was in the front seat when this was happening and had to hand half way out the window while the car was moving.

Ann was playing around with the girls during portraits, so I grabbed a couple off the side.

Hand painted favors. Nice touch.

Great moment.

Sukhothai Hotel at night.

The day after shoot. More relaxed, fun and lots of time. For my clients that are doing destination weddings. This is a good idea. We basically get together the next day just to do a session for the two of you. Locations, I am open to anything. Take advantage of the time that I am there. I have being doing this for years now and it has always produced some amazing images.

Here is a shot of me working it.

Ann grabbed some real beautiful images that day as well. Check her blog for her perspective.

Mike and Matika's engagement session in Bangkok

So I have a little catching up to do. Ann and I have been running around Thailand so much that our time is very limited. Today i am posting from a beach in Barbados. I am staying in a beach front resort as my feet are in the sand and the warm water washes ashore. Today is my day off, so I am just going to catch up on some reading and relax a bit.

Last week Ann and I got together with Matika and Mike to create a engagement session in Bangkok. Here are some of the shots.

This is where Mike actually proposed.

Just goofing around during the session. We really had a blast hanging out. For the record, that is Matika's purse I am holding during the session. LOL.

This is a tuk-tuk. One of my favorite ways to get around Bangkok.

Street vendors are everywhere. They sell everything including fish in a bog. You know the kind you get a carnivals.

This was really cute. We were taking a break in front of the church where the ceremony was to take place. These little school girls couldn't stop giggling and looking at Matika and Mike. I made a for a fun moment.

We ending our session atop of the Sky-Bar for drinks.

Great lighting during sunset overlooking all of Bangkok.

I was happy with a fun session, my camera and a Mojito

Shelli and Jason's wedding in Jamaica

It was another early start for Ann and I. We already had a great connection with our clients. So we knew that this wedding was going to ROCK. Shelli had a vision and it was up to us to make it happen. Good Hope in Trelawny, Jamaica was the location. A 18th century plantation that is sometimes used for fashion shoots and movie sets. We had a great location to work with and a bride and groom that was up for anything. Here is just a taste of some of the amazing images we grabbed that day.

Awesome shoe shot.

DARE TO BE... COOL

One of those cool moments after the ceremony.

Jason had his moment as well.

I love getting everyone together for a shot.

Ann posted some her cool shots. So be sure to check her blog .

Engagement session in Jamaica

Meet Jason and Shelli. Ann and I did something we have never done before. At the break of dawn, Ann and I took advantage of the morning light for a engagement session on the beach. Sunrise and sunsets and a bit different here. So we made the most of it. These guys were so easy to work with and amazing in so many ways.

Ann grabbed this during the session. So my perspective clients can see how I like to work with you and how we go about making killer images.

Ann took some killer shots as well. Check her blog to see her perspective.

Jamaica or Bust

Ann and I are at it again. After having a very successful year in the Bay Area, it is time for another destination wedding. Here we are in Falmouth, Trelawny, Jamaica. I am posting today from a plantation home built in 1755 on over 2000 acres. The home will be the site for the wedding this coming Saturday. So please check back in.

Here are some goofy shots we did as we arrived.

As we stood in line for immigration. I noticed we had about 25+ people all with the same shirt heading out to another wedding. There was actually 6 other couples here for a wedding. You can pretty much spot them. The groom is always carrying the wedding dress.

This was actually the coolest bath tub I have ever seen. John Tharp, the former owner had this built to help in his rheumatism. A lead coating and a copper tub set aside had running water that was heated from below. Falmouth was said to have running water before New York City.

Ann found this bird nest outside her bedroom window.

Here is the bridal suite.

The grounds have so much to offer. Check out Ann's blog for some more shots.

Ann and I headed down the road to scout out some locations for portraits. We found some rustic buildings that were converted into a pottery workshop.

Jared and Jeanette's wedding in Westchester, New York

This past Saturday I had the pleasure of teaming up with my buddy Brian Crain . He is a great wedding photographer out of Baton Rouge Louisiana. Brian and I have been friends for several years now and met up at a photography convention and sponsored by the same Photo Lab. We network regularly and have learned allot from each other. Keeps the juices flowing.

The wedding was shot at Castle on the Hudson in Tarry town New York over looking the Hudson river. We started with a shave a haircut for the men in this very charming barber shop. Some of the guys in there had been going since they were kids. it first opened in 1960. Very cool. All the getting ready, ceremony and reception would take place at the Castle . Jeanette is a great gal and all of her details in place. From Manolo Blahnik shoes, a bouquet that held 500 individual flowers to create her bouquet. and the Sylvia Weinstock cake . It was a very New York wedding.

Jeanette did miss one thing though. Something old. Well, the day before the guys went antique shopping and Jared sent over this antique garter clip. It really put the room in tears. Nice touch Jared.

Jeanette's bouquet was made up of 500 individual flowers.

Here is a shot of Brian and me.

Mike and Robyn's Wedding in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico

Cabo San Lucas Wedding. Mike and Robyn were planning a destination wedding in Cabo San Lucas. The had a private villa for up to 100 guest. They were both living in New York City planning the wedding. She wanted something different in photography. So this is where Ann Hamilton and I come in. Actually the new issue of Destination Weddings and Honeymoons magazine has a Cabo San Lucas Wedding running this summer that Ann Hamilton shot last year. Funny she kinda went full circle. Anyways, they rented out a private villa for the ceremony and off to the county club in Cabo Del Sol for the Reception. I had a blast shooting the wedding. It was a bit of a challenge in the 90+ degree heat. But nothing a little adrenaline and water couldn't cure.

Robyn's dress was custom by her best friend Melissa Halleran of Cusp Swim. The dress was definitely a labor of love. Melissa's swim wear has been featured in everything from Vouge to Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue.

Custom engraved rings.

She wore a family veil. Passed down for generations. So this was her something old.

Weddings are filled with details. I grabbed this image during the ceremony was thinking how cool it was. Robyn and Mike can look back at this one shot and tell pretty cool story. You can see the time of the ceremony, Robyn's ring being given by Mike and the meaning of it. Robyn's bracelets and even the ring of the minister. What was his experience when he was the groom and what wonderful things being married brought him. And of course the vows that are being read.

Love the frame in this shot.

Ann took this shot after we got done doing some of the beach portraits.

Charles and Kathy's wedding in Los Angeles

Talk about every detail counts. This wedding had it all. Great details, Lots of emotion and of course my favorite, Awesome clients. Cause you know me, I am all about having amazing clients. I met Charles at Kathy last year at a wedding I did last year on Treasure Island for Chris and Eileen. I'll post that wedding soon, cause you really have to see that one to believe it. So Ann Hamilton and I are in Los Angeles, where I grew up and it's about 100 degrees. The wedding took place at Skirball Cultural Center and getting ready was at the W in Westwood. Jeannie from Details, Details wedding and event planning put the event together and flowers were done by Square Root Design, invitations and artwork was done by paper girl , hair and make up was done by Jessie Lin .

Click here if you want to some shots from the engagement session in San Francisco and Berkley.

Lots of Bling, Bling everywhere.

Hey here is a shot of my bride Eileen, during getting ready. Her and Chris' wedding was off the hook.

More Bling for Charles.

Always dedicated to getting the perfect shot. The man in action!!!!

What? Madonna.

I get asked allot, What would it be like to to see each other before the wedding? Would the impact be the same? What about tradition. Well, not everyone wait to walk down the aisle before seeing each other for the first time on the wedding day. It actually gave me more time to be creative with not only them, but families and friends. We took care of all the portraits before the guest started to arrive. So to answer questions about seeing each other before the ceremony. Take a look these moments as they happened. In my opinion, the impact was more intense. Charles called it, "The Magic Moment". He was right.

Well, it was time to dance and have some fun.

Just having a little fun with Cathy's veil while doing portraits.

Perfect way to end the evening. Big ending to the last dance to a perfect wedding day!!!!!!!!!

Here is a email that the MOH Carol sent me the day after wedding.

Hi Gene!

Oh my gosh...the wedding was unbelievable!!!  I just wanted to thank you again for really going out on a limb for our family.  You have a magical gift of making everyone feel so comfortable and at ease in front of the camera.  You and Ann were literally shedding blood, sweat, and tears to get some awesome shots at the wedding.  From some of the shots I saw from Ann's camera, I know the pictures are going to turn out amazingly.  I heard from so many family and friends about how "great the photographers" were.

I know you're heading off to Mexico this week.  Have a safe trip!  Have an extra margarita for me!  Just wanted to drop a quick hello and a big THANKS AGAIN for all your hard work.

You have definitely become an honorary member of the family!

Take care,
Carol

So the wedding went online and this is email I got from Kathy:

Dear Gene,

All I can say is "WOW"!!!! My jaw dropped when I saw the pictures and I haven't been able to close my mouth since.

The photographs are absolutely stunning and I am so grateful to you and Ann for capturing my wedding day. As the bride, the day went by so quickly and I didn't even get to see so much of it. Your guys' hard work (and that is an extreme statement considering the 100 degree heat) has preserved all of the little moments of my day that I didn't get to see myself. I cannot thank you enough for giving me those memories back. Ruth (my wedding coordinator) said that she has never seen professional photographers work so hard and would recommend you to anyone. She said you wouldn't even take a water break because you didn't want to miss a shot or a moment!!! All of our guests loved you, too, because you guys have a knack for making people feel comfortable and totally unobtrusive. Its one of those traits as a photographer you can't even guage when you interview them - you only get it when they see you in action. I wish all of your clients could see you in action before their big day!

Your work speaks for itself and I can't wait to show off your stuff to everyone! You totally captured every emotion, tear, half-smile and laugh on our faces. And the artistry of your detail work shocked me because I didn't realize our details actually looked that good on the wedding day.

Thank you so much for helping me see my wedding day for the first time. Like my sister said, you really have become an honorary member of our family.

Love,
Kathy
