Thu - August 9, 2007Meet my teachersI love my clients. I love doing new activities
and learning new things. Well, Kevin and his dad are my new golf teachers.
That's right I am taking golf lessons. What better way to spend my sundays after
shooting a wedding. Relax, get some sun, and play some golf. I have been been
wanting to play a new sport for some time now. Here is the new Titleist ad
featuring my groom and his father, my new teachers.
![]() Posted at 06:10 PM Wed - August 8, 2007More iphone funAs promised here is some iphone shots from Kevin

I could just blog from my iphone. Trust me I am working on that. Seriously.
![]() Tanya took this one. I gotta have my picture taken with all my clients. ![]() On another note. My buddy Jesse Leake and I took some time for ourselves the other night and hit up a SF Giants game in hopes of catching #756. ![]() We got really lucky with tickets. Section 146 row 6. ![]() Check out Jesse with the super duper long lens. Some guys behind us were ready for action. We couldn't resist, and asked if we could check it out. ![]() Here is Barry up at bat. ![]() ![]() ![]() Need I say more. You thought some guy from Queens, NY got it. Think again. LOL ![]() Just kidding. It would have been cool if this was the actual ball. I'd be a millionaire by now. Posted at 11:20 PM Fri - August 3, 2007Ann's amazing dadI wanted to post something here for Franky. But,
I think Ann said it best. Here is the copy from her blog. If
you want to post a comment for Ann feel free. Thanks for checking in.
blessings~ My beautiful dad passed away peacefully Wednesday morning after a year-long and courageous battle with cancer. Thank you everyone for your prayers for my dad and family during this difficult time. This is very personal, but I want to share something that I think is very important. Family. Don't put anything before family. Moments. Treasure those moments with your loved ones, and treat the time you spend with them like there is no tomorrow. Photographs. Take lots of pictures. You'll be thankful later on to have captured priceless moments in time. Becoming a photographer was a second career for me. I was a late bloomer to the profession, but I always believed that it was what I was meant to do with my life. I look back at all the photographs I have taken of my family, of my dad in particular, and I smile and remember those moments as if they just happened yesterday. That is the beauty of photography. Every time I photograph a wedding and see a bride with her dad, I'm reminded of my own wedding day and the moments I shared with my dad. I've always told my brides that one of my favorite things to do when photographing a wedding is to document those special moments between a daughter and her father (and a mother and her son, too). Sure, the dress, the flowers, the venue, the cake, etc. are all important, but nothing is as important as your loved ones. Cherish your time with them. Here is me and my dad at my wedding in 1994. It's a bad scan, I know, and I still cringe about my hair... it was the 90's afterall!. But I remember that moment like it was yesterday and I'll always cherish that time with my dad. Love you, Dad. xoxo ![]() Posted at 11:38 PM Sun - July 29, 2007Journeyman comes to the studioLast Friday 20th century moved in the streets of
Cow Hollow to film a scene of Journeyman. Hopefully you will get to see some
of storefront in it. The whole day we had film crews up and down the street.
Pretty cool. I used to do extra work in Los Angeles with David Arquette all the
time to make some extra cash. I was in Hots Shots 1 &2 , commercials and
what not. Nothing to big.
![]() ![]() I admit I had a little camera envy. ![]() Stayed tuned this fall for the season premier of Journeyman. The season premier stars Kevin McKidd on NBC, September 24. Posted at 11:27 PM Thu - July 26, 2007Get well Franky babyFranky baby, that's what I call him. I can do
this cause they guy has the best sense of humor. He has the best one liners and
so many fun stories to tell. He is one of those guys you love being around. He
loves his family, his dogs and has a passion for traveling. I have taken buggy
rides in Waikiki, climbed water falls in Jamaica and had many meals together,
good times. He even came out to Vegas to see my talk at WPPI. How awesome is
that!!!
Here we are in 2005. A little break between weddings. Check out Franky's hair. LOL. :) ![]() Well, if you have been reading my blog. My friend Ann Hamilton, Franky is her father is very Ill at the moment. But, he still has his sense of humor and still telling his stories. I chuckle as I write this, cause I just love this guy. Ann sent over this photo last night, and I thought it was great. Taken last month in NYC with his wife Evelyn. Now Evelyn, gotta love her. She's a real doll. Notice Franky got a little lipstick on his right cheek. LOVE IT, still the ladies man. Everyone who is reading this post, please send Franky a get well, message by clicking on the comments section below the photograph. best~ ![]() To Franky, Hey Frank just wanted to send my best to you and let you know that I miss all of you guys. I know you have tons of family around you and I wish I could be there, but someone gotta hold down the fort. Be strong and Know that I thinking of you all the time. I was reading this morning and I thought you might like these quotes from Buddha. Meditate. Live purely. Be quiet. Do your work with mastery. Like the moon, come out from behind the clouds! Shine. The secret of health for both mind and body is not to mourn for the past, worry about the future, or anticipate troubles but to live in the present moment wisely and earnestly. Posted at 10:26 AM Fri - July 13, 2007Out of town till July 22Today is Friday the 13th, I'm attending a
workshop for workflow to streamline production. Then I am heading down to Los
Angeles. I have some business to take care of, spend some time with my family
and shoot a wedding with a friend. If all the meetings go well, I will be
announcing some new projects for 2008. Stay tuned.
Of course, Tanya is in the studio to take care of any your production needs. Tanya can be reached by email, tanya@genehiga.com or simply call the studio on the weekdays between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. Thanks for checking in. Our new workflow will be in place ASAP. Posted at 05:57 AM Sun - July 8, 200707.07.07 in 7x7People say that it was one of the luckiest days
of the century to get married. According to the knot.com 36k who registered, got
married over the weekend. I was to photograph a celebrity wedding down in
Malibu, but unfortunately it was cancelled. Ann was lucky enough to be in Maui
shooting her wedding. I decided to stay in San francisco.
It was nice to have a day off. I did absolutely, NOTHING. It felt great! Production in the studio is totally caught up. That is rare in the middle of wedding season for most. As photographers, we work 24/7 and the demands of getting everything done can be overwhelming. Don't get me wrong I am not complaining here but, I do think that it is very important that we all find balance between home and work. We will actually be better at what we do if we just take some time for ourselves and revamp. So I have to agree 07.07.07 was a very lucky day. This shot atop of the Mayan ruins, Chichenitza shows how I feel right now. ![]() Posted at 11:33 PM Fri - July 6, 2007Jesus PhoneSorry to say that I was not one of those crazed
people who stood in line for hours to get my hands on the iphone. But,
I did consider it. Ann and I were returning from a destination wedding, docked
in San Diego and had some time to kill before catching a flight back to San
Francisco. So we headed over to the apple store. We walked in and walked out 10
minutes later, iphone in hand.
I have been playing with it for a week now and I am hooked. ![]() I love it so much, it even brings up my favorites blog. Finding sushi nearby, pinching cool photos, watching youtube videos and not getting lost anymore with google maps. I can also do my texting, email, watch my videos and of course make some calls. All in one slick gadget. I think I have a new best friend. Just kidding. Did I mention that it has a camera? I'll take some wedding images with it soon. Gotta have my toys! ![]() Here are some funny youtube videos I found. Amazing Coordinated Samsung Dance Yoyo Man Posted at 09:38 PM Wed - July 4, 2007Happy Fourth of JulyBad blogger!!!
I had to take a little Gene-time. I have been doing so much. Teaching a class over at Golden Gate School, shooting tons and traveling. So I have so much to blog. Check back in this week. I'll do some catching up. But for now, here are some shots from my rooftop of the fireworks celebration in San Francisco tonight. ![]() ![]() Posted at 10:35 PM Wed - June 13, 2007Happy Birthday AnnToday is Ann's birthday. She is away from the
studio spending time with her family in North Carolina. She officially turned 30
something. That's all I will say at the risk of getting into serious trouble for
posting this.
Ann and I met about 6 years ago in a workshop. She was shooting film and I was going digital. During the workshop Ann asked about meeting clients outside a studio environment, so I shared what was working for me. I asked where she was based and if she wanted to start networking. She was in the city and I was in the Monterey Bay. She always teases me about asking if we could refer. Well, glad I did, cause we have really become the best of friends. I wanted to send a big hug to you, Ann. You have been so supportive in my business and personal life. Happy Birthday!!! If any of you want to send Ann a birthday wish, ann@annhamilton.com. ![]() On a side note. Lately, I have had some things come up that really made me think about the value of my job. Last week, I was asked to be a paul-bearer for my aunties funeral. I did so without hesitation. But, during the funeral there was this amazing family photo of at least 4 generations of my family there. My uncles had all asked for me to make copies for them. I had a client that was jogging by the studio stop and tell me that her dad just passed away, a couple of weeks after we did the wedding. That there was this one shot that really caught who he was and how they wanted to remember him. I have a close friend who is dealing with a very serious illness in the family. I won't go into details. I wanted to ask all of you who read my blog. Please do me a favor and say a prayer for my friend. Send your good vibes their way. It humbles me to think about how fragile life really is. I don't share too much personal things on this blog. But, this time I thought it was important. Posted at 07:41 PM Sat - June 2, 2007Out of town till June 7thI actually had a day off today to catch up some
rest. Tomorrow I am off the shoot another amazing wedding for Anna and Kevin
down in Carmel. So monday we leave for Orlando Florida to be the guest speakers

getting together so check back in. I will post some images from our presentation
and shoots. I will also be posting the wedding of Orlena and Justin that we shot
the day after we returned from Kauai. Keep your fingers crossed that hurricane
Barry will die down.
Tanya is at the studio to take care of any of your production needs. tanya@genehiga.com or call (415) 771-3223. Posted at 07:27 PM Fri - May 25, 2007East and Northside Kauai road tripDay two and we have seen so much. The northside
would be where the wedding will be held. So it made sense to do a little
location scouting and catch up with Tania and Kyle.
We first stopped at Kilauea Lightouse. ![]() ![]() We found this awesome church roadside. I was thinking how cool it would be to do a wedding here. ![]() This Hanalei Valley lookout. There is taro fields growing everywhere. ![]() Ann kept making me do the jumping shots. ![]() ![]() Bubbba burgers is a must stop in the small town of Hanalei. Danny Quijano gave me the tip. Danny actually has a home here, so he is kind of a local now days. I was just thinking, Danny has been a mentor to me and he really has the life that I aspire to. Great family, successful business and two homes. One in Santa Cruz and the other here. Someday. :) ![]() Had to stop at the Hanalei surfshop and get some gear. ![]() This was one of the lookout points. ![]() Some of the wet tunnels. ![]() So we headed down this dirt trail and found this amazing private beach. ![]() Some of the lava rocks. When in hawaii, please don't take any rocks home. Very bad luck. ![]() ![]() Blogging next to the koi pond having breakfast before the wedding today. Check back in the wedding is going to be amazing. Posted at 11:40 AM Thu - May 24, 2007Westside of Kauai road tripTime to put the hummer to the test. Kauai really
only has two major highways the 50 and 56. We actually only traveled about 30+
miles, but there was so many cool things to do along the
way.
Our first stop, along side the road we got our first look of Waimea Canyon. ![]() ![]() Being such a coffee addict, we had to stop at The kauai Coffee Company. Ann had a Mocha and I got my expresso. ZOOOOOOMM. Time to hit the road again. ![]() Here are some of the fields. Red dirt and all. ![]() ![]() Some of the premature coffee beans. ![]() Shot this for me mom. She wanted some photography for her office. ![]() Down the road was the historic town of Hanapepe. Small one road town. Felt like we walked back in time. Found the famous suspension bridge. ![]() ![]() Shave ice always hits the spot, right? I used to go all the time as a kid to Matsumoto Shave Ice on north shore, Oahu. But kauai has JoJo's, we had to stop. ![]() Check out the cool menu. I had the Guava and ice cream, Ann had strawberry, lemon and blue rasberry. BROKE DA MOUTH. ![]() A little detour off the beaten path and found this cool red dirt field. ![]() Ann grabbed this killer shot. I am so lucky to have a personal traveling photographer. Just kidding. We joke about it all the time. LOL. ![]() ![]() ![]() At the top way a AMAZING lookout of the Waimea Canyon. ![]() Small churches are everywhere. ![]() ![]() This was side of the road. WW2 tanks. ![]() Found this field during sunset. ![]() Tomorrow we head over to the eastside. I hope to get a little surf session in and maybe some snorkeling. Posted at 01:52 AM Wed - May 23, 2007Kauai - The garden islandDay one, Ann and I are well rested and ready to
see the island. We have two full days to ourselves and neither of us have been
here before. I rented us a very cool hummer to do the road trip around the
island. I have always wanted to drive one. It drives a lot different from my
Benz and I can see why everyone loves them so much. Today the weather is a cool
81 degrees and sunny. Lots to see and do in such a short amount of time. So
check back in, I'll post more. In the meantime, check out the hummer. I'm
stoked.
Ann grabbed this shot from our connection in Honolulu. We had a bit of a layover, so I got to talk to my brother for a bit. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Posted at 11:15 AM Mon - May 21, 2007Out of town till May 25thWell, it was good to be home for one day. Here we
go again. Off to Kauai for another wedding. This week we are taking care of
Kyle and Tania. I met them while photographing
the wedding of Mike and Robyn in Cabo San Lucas. Should be
really cool, so check back in for more fun
images.
Till then check out Lisa Yuen on Martha Stewart. There are three parts to the segment that aired on May 15th. Be sure to watch them all. For all you crafty gals, check out Paper Bloomsters .
