Further signs of America's decline into Empire?

Do you really give a crap that Arnold Schwarzenegger is running for governor of California? Should you give a crap? Jesus, if you watched the so-called cable news channels you'd think Jesus had arrived on a blinking UFO hand in hand with Elvis and was riding down the off-ramp on the back of the Loch Ness Monster while Bill Clinton passed out cigars to cheerleaders and Laci Peterson's husband pulled a bevy of girlfriends from out of his hip pocket!!! Give me a break . . .

"Dems in Disarray" reads the omnipresent deck under the CNN stories. BFD. Have the Dems ever not been in "disarray" since the dawn of my or your political consciousness . . . Lyndon, Ed Muskie, Gene McM, Ted Kennedy, Carter, blah, blah, blah.

What's the real disarray? The economic implosion of California probably. Do we get any news stories about why Cali is suffering this huge budget deficit? About the collapse of the California dream? About the "recall" vote being the creature of one right-wing Republican millionaire? About why 48 out of 50 states are slashing their budgets? Hell no . . let's get into Arnold S and get lost in the blend of Hollywood, television, and political hysteria . . .

In my more paranoid moments, I'm thinking there's a cabal somewhere - - Bud "I've Got a Plan to Surveil Every Nickel You Drop" Pointdexter, Rupert "The Alien" Murdoch, and Ari "Don't Call Me Smug or I'll Give You a Withering Glance" Fleischer (feel free to fill in your own postmodern villain types) - - rubbing their hands in glee at another successful effort to bury the real news (how many American proletarian type kids dead in Iraq? How many injured? How many new Taliban assassinations in .. what was the name of that country? How many folks giving up on work? How many libraries cutting their hours short? . . .etc. etc.) under the cotton candy mountain of the tabloid media . . . while they sip their martinis and playfully snap each others' BVD waistbands . . .

Christ, now they've got some political hack talking about "traveling with Arnold" and what she learned . . .

I can't take it .. . must get to Costa Rica . . must escape the tentacles of the National Entertainment State . . .must evade . . .help . . .help . . help . . .
