Dual Meet Program

A dual meet program is an excellent way to promote your team and coaching philosophy. Many schools do not bother with a program because of the time and effort required to make one. Fine. Get someone else to do it, preferably a student or group of students. Coaches are educators and students can learn a lot by being responsible for this publication. However, be sure to proofread the document yourself before going to print! It doesn't have to be a 50-page full-color program either. It can be a single sheet (two sides) such as this Example. The important thing is it gets done and is a quality publication. With some effort it can also be a profitable fund raiser. As to content always think in terms of information (schedule, schedule changes, directions, school and administration info, etc.) and Challenges, Achievement and Recognition With that in mind your program can include some or all of the following:

  • Attractive cover - Photos such as action shots, team captains, seniors, team photo, etc. make the best cover. Today's digital cameras make it easy to take the photos and computer software permits you to generate some interesting effects. If you need graphics go to Clipart at Tom Fortunato's excellent website.
  • Season Preview
  • Individual and Team Records
  • List former County, District, Region or State Champions depending on the time of year.
  • Academic achievements of your wrestlers.
  • Roster including your managers and scorekeepers
  • Coaching staff information
  • Schedules of all your wrestling squads including the results to date.
  • List of patrons - charge a $1, $2 or $5 for each name in the list.
  • Ads - you can keep it simple by using their business cards as the ad.
  • Information about former wrestlers who are currently attending college.
  • Photos including individual, team, action shots and pictures of your fans.
  • A section about your team, its goals and needs.
  • Wrestling rules and regulations - Knowledgeable wrestlers and fans are important.
  • Wrestler-of-the-Week or Upset-of-the-Week
  • List the matchups such as below:

 Home

 Visitor

 Bout Score

 Team Score

 103
 Stan Dup  H. Alf Nelson

 112
 Legg Ride  Matt Burn

  • A "Thank You" section - you can make a list of all the people you want to thank or highlight some individual each meet such as the following:

Thank You, Mr. Z

It takes a 100 good people to make a great program! While we're not quite there yet, we would like to recognize and thank Mr. Z for his efforts in ...

  • You may want to mention wrestlers who exemplify characteristics that you believe are essential for athletes such as the following:

Name That Wrestler!

One thing our team takes great pride in is to NEVER QUIT no matter the odds nor the score. Last week one of our grapplers was losing 11-0 in the second period. However, he never stopped wrestling and eventually won by a fall in 4:30! Can you name that wrestler who wouldn't quit and enjoyed a great come-from-behind victory?

Quick Pin Wrestlers

There's nothing like a quick pin to excite the crowd and fire up the team! Last week we had three first period pins against XYZ High School. Can you name those wrestlers who were hungry for SIX in a hurry?!
