Journal - The Holiday's Over, 5 January 2004

Harrow BadgeHappy New Year Everybody, together with apologies for not writing for ages.

I do have an excuse. Well two actually! The secondary excuse is that we've been on holiday. Well three actually! First to Dolphin Bay for a weekend, then to Krabi and Ko Phi Phi for eight days prior to Christmas, and finally just after New Year we went to Kanchanaburi for the weekend, which is where the 'Bridge On The River Kwai' is - more text and photos will follow of the latter two.

But the main reason for my literary lapse is that I have a job. Yes, it's true, the holiday is over. Virtually three months after arriving in Thailand my sabbatical ended. No more going back to bed after the missus and kids have left for school, no more leisurely paper reading, no more watching the Premiership replays, no more trips to the gym for a handful of sit-ups (and more TV), no more picking the kids up from school (gossiping), no more looking after them after school (throwing them in the pool) - lazy days are gone!

But I am not complaining. It couldn't have come at a better time. The other (and virtually only) option was a really intense TEFL course, and then to become a teacher.

The 'job' by the way is ICT Manager at Harrow International School, which means that Lisa and I now work for the opposition! The job is great and very challenging, but the best thing is the school food. Well it was. All the good work in the gym has gone to waste, and the new years resolution is to just have stirred fried rice and fruit!

PS Dear Journal, I promise to write more and not use having a job as a pathetic excuse again.
