Here at Bangkok Garden we live in Tower B* on the eighth floor, and so each day we have to make about a dozen lift journeys to get around or out of the place.

Imagine my horror when last saturday I got in the lift to go out and meet Lisa and, no sooner had I pressed the button, the lights went out! A few expletives later, I fumbled for my mobile phone and using the light from the screen managed to find the emergency button. After a few seconds - though it felt like hours, honest - the lights came on and I proceeded to the 3rd floor. Apparently this happens quite often, which makes me feel so much better!

Incidentally the lifts are made by a company called Schindler - didn't someone once make a film about these lifts?

* Many people here refer to each tower as a block - "I live in C Block." - which makes it sound a bit too much like a prison, rather than luxury apartments!
