Landscaping Fabric

Heavy-duty fabric to separate sub-base from aggregates. Allows water to drain away, but does not allow weed growth to penetrate. Rot proof. I have used landscaping fabric (usually Plantex from Travis Perkins)for 14 years under drives, paths, patios. Also under pea-shingle mulch to make low-maintenance garden bed (cut cross shape in fabric to put plant through into soil).

Leaf Mulch

In the autumn, leave your grass to grow longer from the start of October. When the leaves from your trees fall on the lawn in November, use a rotary mower set at the highest cut to collect the leaves and also the grass clippings. Spread 3 " (75mm) thick under your hedges, trees and beds as a mulch. Cut once a fortnight so that by Christmas the grass is cut down to 1" (25mm) in height and all the leaves have been collected from the lawn and recycled to the living plants. When pruning your shrubs/trees/climbers at this time, put the prunings on the lawn and mow them at the same time as you would cut the grass and fallen leaves to include in the mulch.

Lime mortar instead of cement for walls

Stone wall built with cement.

WestbayBrickwithCementEcomerchant1Whilst lime putty mortars are most often used for the repair of older buildings, hydraulic lime can fulfil structural requirements for new build where once Portland cements were the only answer.

Brick Wall built with lime mortar.

BrickwithLimeMortarEcomerchantHydraulic lime is an environmentally friendly alternative to cement which uses less energy in manufacture, sets almost as quickly, allows a building to breathe and flex, and eliminates the need for expansion joints.

Use it to build garden walls instead of cement.

ecomerchant try to offer a wide range of building and decorating materials to satisfy the requirements of those people who are trying to minimise their environmental impact and create a healthier atmosphere both inside and outside the home and workplace. This includes providing a wide range of traditional materials for the restoration and renovation of old buildings.

Low voltage garden lighting system

The EZClick low voltage lighting system simply works by connecting the fittings to the low voltage cable with the special connector blocks as follows:-

1. Lay the SPT-3 cable around the garden where the lighting is to be positioned.

2. Place your fittings around the garden Putcablesinconnectorblockshotcadjacent to the SPT-3 cable. Using one of the connector blocks, remove the cap, then lay the transformer cable across the wider side and SPT-1 fitting cable across the narrower side.

Refitcappushingdownfirmlytomakeconnectionshote3. Place the connector cap back on the block, pushing down firmly to ensure the connectors bite into the cables.

4 Connect the SPT-3 cable into the transformer and plug the transformer into a 13A socket. Your fittings will now illuminate to create:-
