Landscaping Fabric |
Heavy-duty fabric to separate sub-base from aggregates. Allows water to drain away, but does not allow weed growth to penetrate. Rot proof. I have used landscaping fabric (usually Plantex from Travis Perkins)for 14 years under drives, paths, patios. Also under pea-shingle mulch to make low-maintenance garden bed (cut cross shape in fabric to put plant through into soil). |

Leaf Mulch |
In the autumn, leave your grass to grow longer from the start of October. When the leaves from your trees fall on the lawn in November, use a rotary mower set at the highest cut to collect the leaves and also the grass clippings. Spread 3 " (75mm) thick under your hedges, trees and beds as a mulch. Cut once a fortnight so that by Christmas the grass is cut down to 1" (25mm) in height and all the leaves have been collected from the lawn and recycled to the living plants. When pruning your shrubs/trees/climbers at this time, put the prunings on the lawn and mow them at the same time as you would cut the grass and fallen leaves to include in the mulch. |
