Electricity connection to Pond Equipment

New legislation was introduced at the beginning of 2005 which restricts the amount of fixed electrical installation work that can be carried out by other than qualified electricians.

Our Armadillo and PowerBreaker products offer ways that you can safely connect power to your pond equipment within the new regulations.

One requirement is that all outdoor supplies must be protected by a Residual Current Device. RCD's reduce the risk of electrocution from a damaged or broken mains cable.

RCD adaptors and plugs are not ideal for connecting to pond equipment since they trip in the event of a power cut and need manually resetting when the power to your house is restored. The weatherproof Armadillo Pond Connection Unit (GREx62) has an in built RCD that does not need resetting after a power cut. The PCU can be mounted on an outside wall and comes with 3m of flexible cable, so it can be plugged into a convenient socket in the house or garage.

The Armoured Cable Kits (JLE00x where x i 1 for 10 metre Armoured Cable, 2 for 20metre or 3 for 30 metre) are supplied with two suitable weatherproof junction boxes, one at each end, and interconnecting armoured cable all assembled for easy installation. At the house or garage end their is a 3m fly lead which is used to connect to the mains supply, possibly using the Pond connection unit or PowerBreaker RCD Plug described above. At the other end they have a cable gland and terminal block so a pump or switch box can be easily connected in to it. This kit includes the necessary warning tape, a few cable cleats, instructions, raw plugs and fixing screws. The unused cable gland can be removed, if required, to allow an armoured cable gland to be fitted enabling an extension kit to be added.

NOTE: Do not exceed 50m or a voltage drop will be experienced.
