Ivydene Gardens Offbeat Glossary: QRST

This Offbeat Glossary shows in tabular form an alphabetical list of terms commonly encountered in writings about gardening, which exclude agrochemicals, together with some offbeat but interesting ideas.

TERM

DEFINITION

Rabbits

To deter rabbits:-

Plant onions with cabbages,
dust with ashes, powdered aloes or cayenne pepper.

Fertilise with dried blood or blood meal.

Raised bed

A raised bed is a normal bed -
about 36-40 inches wide - which
is raised higher than the path
by the soil put on it.

Shade

Shade is sometimes the decisive
factor in companion planting.
The first plant is harvested
before the Later Plants in the
same ground:-
