Never Fail Cake. Recipe by Anne Whybrow

Never in the field of human endeavour has so much fruit been owed by so many to so few people prepared to eat this cake:-

3 mugs dried fruit (mixed)
1 mug sugar
1.5 mugs water
4 ounces maragarine or butter
1 teaspoon bicarbonate of soda

Boil for 25 minutes

When cool add

  • 2 large or 3 small eggs
  • 2 mugs of Self-Raising Flour
  • pinch of salt

Mix well and pour into a greased and lined cake tin (7-8 inch round or square).
Bake at 160 Centigrade or 325-350 Fahrenheit or Mark 3.5-4 for approximately 1.5 hours.
