Growing Instructions

The soil should be slightly acid to alkaline in full sun so Sandy or Chalk soil manured the previous season is best. Sow in drills 1 foot (30cm) apart and 0.75 inches (2cm) deep and cover to ground level, when the soil temperature is above 7C. Net seedlings to prevent sparrows disturbing them.

Culinary Use

Retain leaf stalk and root. Boil from 3/4 to 2 hours ( deoending on size) in salted water. Remove skin and cool for fresh use. Use tops of young roots the same way as for spinach
